I am familiar with ovarian cancer, as my mother had this disease. Her symptoms were abdominal bloating and bowel disturbance. The doctor kept looking at her intestines. By the time he ran a CA-125 blood test, it was in the 2500 range (normal is 1 - 50) He also missed the opportunity to scan her ovaries.

Ladies, I agree so strongly with above posters. If you have weird abdominal symptoms please get them checked out. And insist on a CA-125, a simple blood test. It’s true they’re reluctant to give that test routinely because of false positives from, say, endometriosis. But the relative numbers in a false positive situation are low. If you actually do have ovarian cancer, your numbers will be far above the false positive range by the time you have symptoms. Remember that this disease has no symptoms until it is pretty far along.

Because of my family history, my doctor (a gynecological oncologist) recommended that I get my ovaries removed as soon as childbearing is over. She said this will also reduce the chance of breast cancer.

A positive note:

I do know a wonderful woman in my town who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and beat it. I think she is at least ten years cancer free and her cancer was significant.

Praying for a cure and sending healing thoughts to all affected by cancer.

I have a good friend with stage III ovarian cancer. She has been extremely active in, and we have supported the Ovarian Cycle <a href=“http://www.ovariancycle.org%5B/url%5D”>www.ovariancycle.org</a> Perhaps someone might want to put a team together and ride at one of their spincycling events??

I’m another frequent reader, non-poster, who’s own mother succumed to this awful disease. Because of this history, my doctor ordered a complete hysterectomy when I had possible symptoms. All good thoughts and prayers to sunrise, havehope and all others facing serious illness.
