I sent my ENTIRE application by mail (supplementary materials, Common App, etc etc. EVERYTHING) and it was postmarked before the ED deadline, but it only reached the college office at possibly around end Nov because I only got my admissions website ID on December 1st.

I was bypassed entirely for ED (results just out and my name was not even in their database) even though I applied for it and sent everything out on time. I’m in the RD pool. The only reason I can think of is that they received the materials too late (or possibly, the post office postmarked it too late, but I will give a call to check on Monday) but in the case that they received the materials very late, is it still possible to ask them to reconsider my case or something?

I suppose I just feel extremely unjustified that I did everything I could on my end and my ED application was dismissed on no fault of my part. (unless, of course, it was postmarked late due to some hold-up at the PO, but as I said, I’ll never know until I give them a call.)

Were you mailing the application packet from Asia? What kind of tracking do you have for the delivery to the Admissions Office?
If decisions are out already, then I’m not sure you can do much about it.
I’d send an e-mail reaffirming your commitment to the school.

If the school has not received it in time, and they have put you into the RD pool, not sure what you are going to appeal for. They will not go back and give you a decision out of turn. What you are asking for is to be considered for ED after the ED results have been announced. I do not believe that will happen, even if it was not your fault.

Hmm I see. I suppose I would just have to clarify some stuff with them about the postmarking and reaffirm that they are still my first choice, and cross my fingers and wait. (: Thanks all.

Is this a school that has ED II? Perhaps you can be considered for that.

What’s important here is that they know that this is your first choice. As long as you make that clear, I don’t think your RD decision will be different from what an ED decision would have been.
