My ED chances

As December 15 nears, I’m getting seriously stressed out. It’s probably bad to do this in case I get some very discouraging feedback, but I’m dying to receive some information.
Okay, so I go to a fairly competitive public school of about 550 in New Jersey, and even though we don’t rank students numerically, I am in the top 1 % (probably number 2 or 3) of the class. I’ve gotten all A’s, taken 7 AP classes, and have formed some great relationships with teachers who wrote me reccommendations. I had an alumni interview that went very well (he asked me to babysit for his daughter some time) and I was told that my essay was unique and well written (I’d like to be an english major). I also submitted a supplemental writing sample.
Okay stats:
SAT I: M- 800
CR- 740
W-710
SAT II: US History: 720 (I know they aren’t the best)
Literature: 650
Math 2C- 660
AP US History 5
AP English Language and Comp. 5
AP Statistics 5

Activities and such:
-Co-Editor in Chief of award winning school newspaper
-Coordinator of SCEEP tutoring program (tutor for 5 years) for elementary aged children from the inner city (the advisor, who I have known since I was 13, wrote me a reccommendation)
-Organized fundraiser carnival for SCEEP that raised $5,000
-STISY temple youth group-member for 4 years and Religious Cultural Vice President for 2 years
-Winner of Full scholarship provided by the editor of Bloomberg News to the prestigious Kenyon Young Writers Workshop (editor of anthology at the end of two weeks) during summer of 2005
-Main Street South Orange- Volunteer on window displays for town beautification committee
-Art Club
-Kids for Kids Club

-Habitat for Humanity
-Lighthouse Soup Kitchen

Any help/suggestions/insight would clearly dispel a lot of the mystery surrounding this process. Thank You!

I think you will get in, you should be confident! Those SAT scores are way above Wes’ average, your rank is awesome, and you applied ED. Seriously, I’d be really surprised if you don’t get in

You have very good chances - great ECs including comunity service and editor-in-chief of the paper, person recs, high class rank and grades, good SATs… I was similar to you in most ways (comparable SATs and ECs and such) but my grades were a little worse and I got in ED. :D

Out of curiosity, what school do you go to? Since you worked with a private literary agency in Montclair, it’s cute because there are 15 freshmen from Montclair this year :stuck_out_tongue: I’m from Livingston btw :)

hey thanks guys! thats really encouraging, i want the letter to come now! madjoy-I go to Columbia High School, I think I may have met you when I came up and slept over with Dara-my host student! I’m a little embarrassed to have posted on this, but the stress causes people to behave in strange new ways! Hopefully I’ll be seeing you next year a lot!

oh, hey! sweet! See you at wesfest, hopefully :stuck_out_tongue: and yeah, I posted on this last year… it’s not so bad, really. And the college admissions process is really interesting.

I Got In!!!

are you from maplewood?

south orange actually, but right next door. how about you?

Remember the prefrosh I’d had that weekend? Rebecca? She just found out she got in, too! see you at wesfest :P

i used to live in maplewood. i live in connecticut now. do you know ariana witkin? she and i were inseperable in preschool.

oh wow!! yeah i do, she just got into brown! we do tons of temple stuff together and are in like all the same classes at school. what’s your name?

hahaha i just talked to her and heard. that’s so amazing!! brown was my first choice until i took an incredible class at wesleyan which propelled it ahead.

my name is shana hurley.

ahh me too that is so crazy. i was all set to apply to brown early until something about it started to just rub me the wrong way. i visited wesleyan, sat in on a class, and really fell in love with it. i hope that we can go together!!

Congrats on ED!!! (Are you going to accept?)
