My Email Account has been hacked....

So, what should I do, apart from changing my password? I use the latest Avira Antivirus.
Please help.

If you think it was due to phishing or simple carelessness with who you give your information to, just be smarter next time. If you think malware had something to do with it, do a full-system scan and delete any recent files you downloaded (redownload if you feel the need to, but check the validity of the program first).

Make sure you have a good firewall. I use Comodo, but it’s difficult to use if you’re not tech-savvy. If you don’t already have one, download antimalware software, such as BitDefender or Search & Destroy.

If you have a slow computer, running separate programs instead of a suite might slow it down further. You can download a Norton 360 Beta release with a free renewable 14 day subscription (which doesn’t use up as many resources as previous versions of Norton).

Finally, after ensuring the safety of your computer, change your password and password recovery questions. Then take down or change any personal info you have of yourself online. Password “recovery” can be done by providing information you used to sign up with, and anyone who knows that info may be able to “recover” your password. I know facebook is very susceptible to that kind of pseudohacking.

Download Malware Antibytes free software too, it is an excellent tool and thousands have it. Just go to the website or googlei t

Also, HiJackThis is a great tool to run a complete system scan. Definitely not for the average joe, but there are plenty of forums out there where competent people can analyze your logs and determine whether or not your system is infected.

Thanks to both of you.
