<p>Alright so i know that getting into any college, you’d get a great education. But i REALLY wanna get into upenn for many reasons. Unfortunately i have a very strange app, I’ve got some good extracurriculars but a lot of weaknesses in the core gpa/test scores thing… The list is from strongest extracurricular to weakest</p>
<p>Male, Asian, from California (things i cant control :O)
GPA(unweighted): 3.3-5ish
PSAT: 173/240 (sophomore score, didn’t study )
SAT: ??
ACT: got a 20 in 8th grade? gonna take it again of course
7 AP classes by the end of high school
EXTRACURRICULARS
-Eagle Scout (includes 50+ hrs of community service)
-Varsity Tennis (no significant achievements though)
-100 hours of community service (not including scouting comservice)
-learned both spanish and french (need to take the sat2, doing pretty well in them though) </p>

<p>So what do u guys think? my gpa sux… and its kinda weird, i know. I don’t have any particular strengths which might be a problem… I’m not an athlete, nor a scholar, nor a musician, but i like doing a little of everything</p>
<p>PS I also want to get into Cornell University, opinions on that too? Which colleges DON’T look at gpa so strongly ?
…also I’m really confused on what career to go for, I’m interested in writing but also architecture… i WAS interested in medical research, but seeing that I don’t have the academic achievements for that, I’m gonna quit dreamin’ bout that one :/</p>

<p>To be honest, your stats just don’t measure up to what the typical UPenn applicants are. However, from the personal information you have given, you seem to be a rather unique and interesting person (not to stereotype here, but you don’t seem like the typical math asian geek) so maybe the adcoms will see that in your essays.</p>
<p>You have lots of APs and seem to be an avid participator in community service, but I think colleges like UPenn usually like to see a higher GPA. Good luck though, the process can be quite surprising!</p>

Does it matter that i started taking interest in school kinda late? my gpa freshman year was 2.8 (unweighted) and then mysophomore’s was 3.55(unweighted). so far my first semester jun year is 3.65 unweighted , but adding it up, cumulatively, its still really bad… (cumulative by the end of junior year: 3.3ish)
w/e then ill be happy wherever i end up.</p>
<p>PS: those AP classes are the easiest ones and our teachers in those particular ap classes are awesome too, the teachers make it so easy for me :)</p>

<p>I asked that same question Btrfly. An admissions officer told me that admission officers would definitely rather see an upward curve than a downward one. I’m in your same shoes, just a little less drastic.</p>
<p>Make sure you apply to schools that you’re positive you can get into. Having UPenn as a stretch is not a bad idea though</p>
