My fellow survivors.......I hereby depart, I was waitlisted.Post ur decision here.

^ Although, I have heard that BU students seem to enjoy their school more than NEU students do…

I’ve heard the opposite. But I guess it depends on who you talk to. BU and Northeastern have basically the same quality of life rating.

max, you could be right! Heres another interseting story, fellow classmate of mine called to say he got into BC, Oberlin and NYU Stern and get this rejected from BU AND NORTHEASTERN! Go figure.

Weird. Your friend must be in shock.

i was flat out rejected by clark and waitlisted by neu, sometimes i really wish i had a gpa.

He is in shock, I forgot Carnegie Mellon. He is waiting on Brown. Who would have thought his rejections would have been BU and NEU in that bunch? C R A Z Y!!

BU has to fill a class of 4500 frosh, so it strange that they would reject him. By comparison, Northeastern only has to fill a class of 2800. But since Northeastern now gets the same number of applications as BU (27,000+), this makes it statisically harder to get into NEU.

i was part of the “black thursday”… i was waitlisted for fall, but accepted for spring term… hmm, not too appealing. i think i’d take my acceptance to BU college of general studies over that.

Maximus, Last year NEU accepted 48% of male applicants and 45% of the female applicants.

What were the numbers for BU last year? I know that BU’s overall acceptance rate was 57%.

BU accepted 53% of males and 57% of females.

Thanks. It will be interesting to see how the numbers shake out this year given the increase in the number of apps received by Northeastern, not to mention the addition of the EA program.

Waitlisted.

710 Math 600 Reading
3.2 GPA- Competitive private FL school
Good recs/essay
Solid ECs/ service

Is it odd that I was admitted to UF and Miami but not NEU? I thought so.

NU is completely arbitrary with admits…how does someone with a 1910 get waitlisted and then someone with 1970 get an 11,000 a year scholarship

if you have high stats and don’t show a particular interest in NEU, they are less likely to accept you because they will be thinking you won’t be going.

Are 27,000 apps at NE a fact? armcp, I agree with you, but this is not the only school that seems arbitrary. Have a look at the Syracuse board, where they are distressed about opening their email. The email is Syracuse’s decision. The applicant stats were so high, and the majority of these applicants were waitlisted! I just think that they, too, were swamped with applications. My S was WL there. Syracuse has the same sat range as NEU. My son got into NEU with a scholarship, yet waitlisted at Syracuse. Go figure.

Don’t know how the waitlist numbers compared to last year, but last year my daughter was waitlisted for the Physical Therapy program at Northeastern (her number one choice by far). After a very long wait, (June 1, if I remember right) she finally got the info that she would not be accepted. I called admissions, just for a little information, and they told me that they did not take one person off the waitlist for any major. (not sure if this is true or not, but it is what they told me). Needless to say she was devasted.

She accepted admission to her safety school (although she was accepted at others, she opted for the safety) and she has had a WONDERFUL freshman year. She is getting A’s, loves her classes and has time for a social life too!

There is life after the waitlist. Go out and fall in love with another school. If Northeastern comes through, then you will have to decide, but should it not, you will be in a better frame of mind to move forward

Good luck to you all!!!

oh man i still havent heard!!
AHHHH

otw, of course i believe you got into u. of miami over norhteastern, they aren’t in the same category, northeatern is considered to be much more selective and yesterday my advisor said she has seen bigger “upsets” with NOrhteastern, than BU or BC! Guess they are really moving up in the ranks, she said a record number of apps, like SO many other schools and a amazingly talented pool of applicants, doesn’t make it easy, good luck to you all.

NEU and BU want better yield rates so they would reject someone like him who may not go to their school. It isn’t that dumb of a concept…
