I have some questions about transferring to Vanderbilt. I tried to send you a message but it wouldn’t allow it. Can you message me? Thank you.
Notre Dame is entirely about fit and coming from a parochial high school makes the transition much easier. I would be cautious transfering to Notre Dame if the child is not from a parochial school and/or is not of Christian faith. This is just from the viewpoint of fit.
Curious, do you have a child who attended ND and had this experience? Not challenging your perspective, just curious. My child attended public high school, is not relgious and is absolutely thriving at ND, including with very diverse (in every way) friends.
My son is also at ND, he loves it and came from a private high school (not religious). He was raised Catholic, but hasn’t found that kids who weren’t are unhappy or uncomfortable. I think getting involved in an activity at ND is really important. My son joined the glee club and that was a fabulous way to make a group of friends.
No I do not but I do know several kids who are there and alumni as well. The school is great and community is awesome as well (the alumns have been friends for 20+ years) and it is simply much easier to fit in if one is from a parochial school and/or is catholic.
I understand that each person is different – but I would like to note that experiences within our family and of friend’s kids who are ND alums with a public high school background do not mirror your theory.
Nonetheless, if the OP’s student is unhappy and feels another college will be a better fit that is a valid reason to consider a transfer.
One of my Ds best friends is in glee club at ND. We probably saw your son if he went on tour to Texas in the fall. They are extremely good and her friend has had an incredible experience so far.
