My friend committed to UCLA, but wishes now that he had chosen USC. He is talking to his college counselor to see if she can do anything, but is there anything that you guys know of that can be done to make the switch to USC?

This is “uncharted territory”. I have no idea how the admissions committee would respond.
As I posted my guess would be to make an appointment and be prepared to offer compelling reasons why SC should open a place for a student who had made another choice.

If your friend wishes to pursue this he/she should act immediately.

Sadly, i do not think he is a legacy. However, thank you for the advice Georgia Girl, and I’m sure it is quite rare for this to occur. He has acted and hopefully something can work out! If anyone on this board has any experience with this matter, feel free to discuss!

Have your friend get an appointment with admissions then run, helicopter or hang glide over to the office. It’s late but I suspect that SC may still be working through its waitlists/Spring Admit offers. Your friend might be able to argue for a preferential position vs those groups.

he is on his way right now everyone! Fingers crossed! Hopefully he ends up a Trojan instead Bruining his life :). he has a legitimate reason, so he’s hoping USC hears out his situation. I’ll get back to you with the results once i know them, thanks for the input!

so basically, he brought them a letter for the reason why, his transcript, updated awards, and enrollment deposit w/ check. When he called beforehand to talk, they said to bring down the deposit and check and they sounded pretty positive they could make it happen. They told him to wait for the check to clear, which means hes a USC student if it does. He hasnt checked yet, as its been the weekend and he doubted it would happen this fast. But he also called housing, and since he had submitted an initial app on April 24th, they said he would be guaranteed housing if he’s admitted… all in all, not sure yet, but looks promising. ill get back to you once the verdict is known

I know of 4 kids that went freshman fall semester to one college and then switched to USC second semester (they had originally been accepted to USC). Two from Stanford and two from colleges on east coast.
