my friend is going to Princeton, but

my friend is accepted by priceton. She and her family are very happy. She can’t decide what to do there. She wants to do something in humanity. she loves to be a journalist or something like that. Her parents heard it’s very hard to find a job with a journalism degree. She still wants to work toward that direction. Her mom asked my mom. my mom has no clue. What do parents here think?

I think if your friend is going to 'Priceton", she should have enough gumption to figure out what she wants to do with her life without asking random parents on a chatroom. Maybe she is the product of a “Tiger Mom” and doesn’t know how to make decisions for herself.

Your friend will have plenty of time to figure out what she wants to study when she’s at Princeton. There will be advisors there to help her. She’ll have some random class, and hit it off with the professor, and that professor will mentor her. Things happen and develop - there are new experiences to explore.

My D’s a current Junior there and changed her major several times in the 1st 2 years. And there doesn’t have to be a connection between what she studies and what she eventually does to pay her bills. In fact, Princeton distributes a book to freshman and parents, filled with stories of alumni - each one talks about what they studied at Pton, and what they are wound up doing, usually with little to no connection.

Your friend’s mom should back off and let her kid find her path.

It’s unlikely that she’ll have any choice other than to do something in humanity.

:)
