My friend won the pillsbury bake-of!!!!

<p>I am just so excited for her and had to share with someone!! :wink:
She will be on the today show tomorrow and in the interview posted on the today show website she said she’d of course use some of the $1 million for her daughter’s college, which won’t be for about 12-13 years, but never too soon to start planning, right?!</p>

<p>I saw her on the Today show - a short snippet today. Wonderful for her. She still seemed to be in shock. She said she plans to buy her daughter one of those fun houses that she can jump in and she plans to save for her college education. She also said she would probably buy more baking supplies. I was surprised to hear that frozen waffles was one of the ingredients in her winning recipe of baked chicken and spinach stuffing. Who’d have thunk it?</p>

<p>When I was a TA, one of my students gave me the best excuse for an absence ever: “My brother won the Pillsbury bake-off and I had to go to the celebration!” Indeed he had; I was tickled to death for her. I woulda been some kind of ogre to begrudge her that one.</p>

<p>Cool. Some of my best “family-tested” recipes are Pillsbury Bake-Off winners: Tuna Spinach Braid, anyone? The other one has our own family name of “Mexican mush” so I forget the real name, but has ground beef, tomato sauce, Mexican seasonings (we add green pepper and onion to up the (hidden) vegetable quotient), other good stuff, topped with split biscuits and cheese. Winners, albeit non-contenders for haute cuisine. What a thrill, DrDrewsmom - even vicariously.</p>

<p>She has won several other contests (southern living, local ones, etc) and was a finalist in the pillsbury one last year and maybe another year too. Never this much cash though!!!</p>

<p>Last fall when my S had his senior pictures done I emailed them to several of my friends and family. She responded and said, “Oh, your son is so handsome and smart too! Maybe we can arrange a marriage” (jokingly…her D is like 4 or 5)
I told S about it at the time and he just laughed.
Today I said, “remember that friend of mine who wanted to set you up with her preschooler (for a few years down the road :wink: )? Well, she just won a million dollars!!!”</p>

<p>She also has a blog where she tries different cookie recipes and one of them was mine which I had shared with her.</p>

<p>No fair – I can’t get half the ingredients here! Sounds yummy though. I’ll have to try it in 20 weeks (not that I’m counting) when I’m back in the US - or maybe 26 weeks - to allow my pots and pans time to arrive. I love my Pillsbury cook books. They have food for “real people.”</p>
