My friend wants to go to:
Penn State
Boston College
Georgia Tech
WUSTL
Stanford

Will you chance him? He has
21 Composite ACT
3.1 UW GPA
Plays football, wrestles for varsity
In science club and latin club
And a great personality if that helps.

You might want to put this in the chances forum for more response.

However, I think that 21 ACT is going to be a major obstacle to getting into those schools. I would definitely think of retaking.

I would also think of some other safety colleges, because from what you have now, most of those schools are reaches, unless your friend is a recruited athlete.

Sorry to burst your friend’s bubble, but those are all high reaches/extremely doubtful with those scores. I wish schools took a good personality into account, but unfortunately they do not. I would look into Indiana, WVU, and maybe UConn. Best of luck.

GPA/ACT is pretty low, but it’s not altogether impossible. And for the personality it does help but honestly it can’t alone outweigh the scores.

Unless he plans to get recruited for football/wrestling, your friend needs to seriously reconsider those options. Right now, BC, WUSTL, and Stanford are out. Penn State and GATech are still reaches.

But if he gets recruited, that changes everything.
