'My Future, My Choice' $1,000 Scholarship: If You Could Pick Any College, Which Would You Pick and Why?

If I had the opportunity to attend any college, I would choose Hamilton College because it fits the way I actually like to learn. I’m drawn to Hamilton’s strong writing culture and discussion-based classes, where students are expected to speak up, challenge ideas, and explain their thinking clearly instead of just memorizing material. That kind of environment pushes you to grow, not just academically but intellectually.

I also appreciate Hamilton’s open curriculum, which gives students the freedom to explore different subjects before locking into a major. To me, that shows the college values curiosity and flexibility rather than forcing everyone into a fixed path. The smaller campus and close professor-student relationships make it feel more personal and supportive, which is something I care about.

If I could choose any college, it would have to be Texas A&M University or its partnering school, Blinn College, because they prioritize community and student fellowship. When I went to tour each campus, I was instantly treated as a part of their community. Within my first student housing tour, I was invited to community events and treated as an equal even though I’m still finishing up my senior year in high school. I felt, just from first impressions, that College Station could really be a home for me. Besides their unwavering hospitality, they offer some of the best nursing programs in the state. Blinn College specifically offers a program called “the ASCEND” nursing program, where I will complete my nursing pre-requisites at Blinn and then transfer to A&M to receive my BSN. I think the opportunity alone is something I am eternally grateful for because it allows students such as myself to spend less on college and make nursing an accessible option for anybody with a passion. I cannot wait to start my college journey this fall, and especially because when I do, I know I will have already made some friends through their hospitality to share it with.

If I had the opportunity to attend any college, I would choose Oxford University because I’ve always wanted to travel out of my bubble and explore different places in the world; and Europe, for a fact has been number 1 on that bucket list. Other than the aesthetic appeal, I would love to be a part of the Institute of Biomedical Engineering because I would be in a community of engineers, scientist, and clinicians who actively collaborate on developments for clinical devices. I also love how Oxford starts their engineering students with a broad knowledge of all the other types before they specialize the students in whatever specific sector they would like to master in.

If given the opportunity to continue my education in any college, I would choose to study abroad in King’s College London. It has always been a dream of mine to see what’s beyond these country borders and travel the world. Studying abroad would be a dream come true for a girl coming from a small town of under 15,000. I know I would gain hands-on experience and have the opportunity to help people from different backgrounds. It would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I’d be so thankful to be a part of.
