My Governor the sleaze bag

There is no way I would have stood beside him at that conference. If he were my H he would be more concerned about what I would say to the world at the first opportunity. He could apologize all he wanted, but it would not have worked. His children are the ones I feel so sorry for. It is hard enough being a teenager and now they have to deal with this mess their father the govenor got himself into.

The initial indictment was against the “escort” company…so doesn’t sound like a “legitimate” business to me. The news reports I’ve heard said the investigation of this business started with the IRS (the way that so many of these “legitimate” businesses get into trouble.)

Also…maybe this info. is in one of the earlier posts on this thread…but…from all of the news accounts I’ve read and heard, Spitzer will not be in legal trouble because he spent time with a prostitute…his trouble will come from how he paid for her services (I imagine no sales tax was paid for these “services”…but that’s the least of the financial issues!)

Picture poetsheart bowing as she backs out of the throne room, crying, “All hail Most High Queen! I am not worthy! I am not worthy!” :D

I bow, as well, zm!

dadx, does that imply that if he employed cheaper prostitutes, and was not transferring thousands of dollars a time, he might not have been caught?

Thank you for humoring me!!

So does that mean that if he was cruising Tenth Avenue, he could have had all the fun he wanted?

Normally, I don’t care about scandals and politicians’ sex lives. I think those are private matters and don’t affect doing the job. As an aside, I do think some politicians are plain stupid to take chances doing risky things since their lives are public and under scrutiny. However, in this case, it really isn’t about his sexual activities. It is about engaging in prostitution which is something that he has prosecuted others for. Therefore, in order for the public to trust an elected official to enforce the laws, that individual must obey them himself. That really is the issue, not his morals. As for his wife and kids, I feel very sorry for them as I would for anyone in such a situation of betrayal. I think their case is far worse because of the public nature and what would normally be a private issue, is out there for all. I wish when people (men in this case) decide to do these things, that they would think of someone besides themselves and all whom they might hurt.

My only comment is Spitzer could have been continuing his prosecturiol zealousness by conducting his own “in depth” research. ;)

Violadad…get out of the gutter!!

My understanding is that the crime became of interest because of the transportation of prostitutes across state lines to do business…ie NY to Washington DC and then back to NY. Now, maybe they can make the case that Wash. DC is not a state??? LOL…

Some speculation this was not about sex, but about illegally moving money around??? Prostitutes as money carriers???

Surreal isn’t it? Spitzer had me fooled…I thought he was a good guy protecting American Quality of Life…

I cannot even begin to understand why she was with him on the dias today… not enough $$$ in the world to be at his side for this. He should take the heat alone. He didn’t include his wife in his Valentine’s Eve party plans… why include her in the roundup? Ughh…

I wish the guy who wrote Tipping Point and Blink (name escapes me at this moment, Malcolm Gladwell?) would write a book about that moment in one’s ego where they now believe they are entitled to do whatever they want…when they want… versus earlier in their life when they did think of others and the impact their behavior could have. To me, it is a Tipping Point of a different kind… but, something happens to make some people feel unstoppable and we are always surprised by the newest contestants!!

ZM: (Bowing low)… I did not know you just had your big birthday. Senior indeed!

Isn’t it appropriate that his ad is to

:D

zm - Congrats on your “promotion”! My post numbers haven’t changed in ages. I’ve been at #318 for weeks.

Does anyone have any idea why? Mr. Moderator??

TIA for any info.

It appears he took his passion OUT of his state.

And…that’s another part of the problem…prostitutes crossing state borders. Apparently, if he had seeked similar services in NY…with someone regularly “employed” in New York…and that employee’s company paid income tax on its profits…today would have been a normal day of corruption and graft in NY politics, instead of a major news event.

bz2010: you don’t get “credit” for posts made in the cafes.

bz2010 –
Cafe posts don’t add to your count.

Find something you’re passionate about in the Parents Forum (not Cafe)…and you can run up that count fairly quickly.

I’m not arguing that Spitzer did something wrong, he did. I’m saying that owning an escort company is perfectly legitimate and the only way they’re going to be able to bring a case against this company (in terms of being a prostitution ring), and it’s owner, is if they can prove it was a prostitution ring and this wasn’t a lone example or a lone woman.

Ah so! Thanks 2boys!
No wonder! I’ve been mostly hangin’ out in the cafe lately.

Appreciate the info.

While not denying that it’s wrong behavior, I think both LaxAttack and I are wondering where this fits in the universe of wrongdoing that politicians engage in, and whether (and why) it should be considered a career-terminating event.

Exactly ^^

It’s pretty obvious. Spitzer used his elected position as Attorney General to prosecute and put in prison people engaged in the business of prostitution. Now we learn that he is one of those people engaged in the business of prostitution (as a client seeking services). Spitzer should be prosecuted for breaking the criminal law and demonized for his unethical behavior, just the same way he would have done to someone else (or a politician such as a Republican Governor assuming one existed) doing what he did. Spitzer is different from other politicians who simply preach that others should be ethical and lawful – Spitzer used his position to enforce those laws about which he preached. This case is now about Justice - Spitzer Style.

So you fully supported the impeachment of President Clinton?
