My Head is going to Explode!!!!!!

^^ Did you keep it off? I doubt it. Yes, one can lose weight quickly. It is also unhealthy and the weight will come back.

Actually, though I don’t follow Atkins and don 't intend to(have done a modified SB diet to good success), I believe it’s not as unhealthy as has been said. And I’ve been convinced through extensive reading that the low-fat/high carb days of the eighties are much of the reason the country is fatter now, and much less like how we were originally programmed to eat than Atkins is. (hunter-gatherer, anyone?)

Edit: not that the OP asked anyone to weigh in on this subject.

The one that gets me is when they charge $1 extra for egg whites. I don’t understand that one at all.

My 2c is to act with your $$ and stop going to the WH. Food notwithstanding, the service is certainly poor.

Oh, and my trick for abstaining from donuts is to call them deathnuts.

good luck

ga2012 mom–GO FOR IT! Good luck on the weight loss.

And if you want a chuckle, look at the similar threads mentioned at the bottom of the page: I’m about to explode… So I might explode… Any Help? My head is going to explode… (that one is NOT this thread!)

And now, thanks to the wonder of the internet, the dialogue, Jack Nicholson from 5 Easy Pieces :D

Starting off with pork chops and eggs from a greasy spoon doesn’t seem like the way to jump start weight loss! If you don’t want to make the food yourself (which I can relate to - I hate cooking), run by Starbucks and get some oatmeal or one of the Vivannos with nonfat milk and extra protein scoops or some of the yogurt with fresh fruit on top. Much better choices than pork chops and eggs that are undoubtedly covered in lots of butter!

^^But that is not Atkins!!!

^I vote we give the OP the respect that she knows what she’s doing.

Since she didn’t ask for diet tips, and says she has used this method before.

(crossposted with SF).

ebeeeee- my Indian inlaws have successfully substituted beans for meat at Taco Bell in different locations (2 or 3 midwest states) with no added charge. Explain to them how the beans are cheaper than the meat and it has worked, a manager (smarter, able to handle the logic, etc) may have to be called. At Taco Bell they are putting everything together for each order so there is no extra time involved. Once you are a regular it becomes hassle free.

OP, not to worry. Evidence based studies actually show that low carb diets do result in faster and often more sustained weight loss. And because unused carbs are stored as fat, and because a low carb diet helps one to loose stored fat, if the diet is successful and the weight is lost, blood sugar, cholesterol levels and BP’s improve. Atkins is high in protein, so muscle mass is not lost in the process. Just drink LOTS of fluids to keep those ketones dilute as they pass through your kidneys. And good luck.

PS, if you have a Planet Fitness nearby, check it out. I went from being a couch/computer potato to a very fit over 50 yo by spending a mere $10 a month. I then upgraded to the $20 a month because you can bring a guest to your home location every day of the year (OK they are closed Christmas). Now I bring one of my D’s, or a friend. I am not running in any marathons, but will be running the 5K at D’s Parent’s Weekend this fall. You can drop weight even faster if you add exercise.

Hear, hear!

Sorry - I skimmed and didn’t get that she was doing Atkins! Carry on.

Frankly, I vote “NO”.

Well, *okay *then.

Well frankly, your attempt at an insult doesn’t bother me in the least. :)

My head could almost explode when I go to the grocery and have to decide whether to get a gallon of milk for $2.50 or 1/2 gal. for $2.00 when I only need a 1/2 gal but I don’t want to get ripped off and I end up buying the gal I don’t need and it ends up souring and I am out the stinking 50 cents.

^^ The ‘Costco’ syndrome.

Could you maybe go do some research and then let us know what part of her Waffle House order is incompatible with the Atkins Diet?

Good for you, GA2012mom!

Atkins reduced my triglyceride level and only marginally affected the cholestrol. I don’t have a weight control issue but onset diabetes 2. There is some questions in my mind on the efficacy of niacin, omega 3’s, statins, tricor, and vitamins. I think a lot of weight issues is related to diabetes and how much we eat starch foods.

good luck.
