My High-School's Matriculation List, How Strong?

I recently recieved the college matriculation list of the past 4 years of students from my High-School. I go to Punahou School in Honolulu Hawaii, which was founded in 1841 by Christian missionaries. We have pretty strong alumni (including Barack Obama) and great athletics (Sports Illustrated rated us 4th best Athletic Program in the nation.) My GPA is a bit low, and as our school doesnt weight or rank, but my college counselor has always said that our academic program’s prestige is well respected at a number of schools. How strong does this matriculation list look to everyone?

Class of 2006
Size of Class: 433

4 Year College: 423 (99%)
2 Year College: 6 (1%)

4-Year Matriculation (largest numbers, top schools)

University of San Diego 19
Yale University 18
Carnegie Mellon 17
University of California Irvine 16
Princeton University 13
Harvard University 10

I am impressed that Michelle will have 19 classmates at Stanford.

Wow!!! 61 People From 1 School In Hyps

the ratios of people attending top colleges is about the same between our schools, although my school is only about 200 in a class. my school is also widely respected. unless your school has massive grade inflation where like 30 people have 4.0s, then a slightly lower GPA than kids from other normal schools will not hurt your application.

That’s a list of acceptances, not final destinations (the clue is that it adds to almost 800). Actual yields would be much lower.

That being said, your school is clearly outstanding. It is a private school, correct? What are the standards for admittance to the high school?

Sorry, on rereading I see you mentioned that it was a matriculation list covering four years. Those numbers are amazing.

your HS is well known to those in the CONUS – the results are extremely strong.

We actually have like no grade inflation. My college counselor said something like we don’t usually have 4.0s at all.

We are a private school, depending on what year you enter our school (K-12) the standards for entrance our different. SSAT is required as well as strong grades, recomendations and interview from previous school. It’s very selective and for most in Hawaii is their number one choice for secondary schooling.

Why do people at your school like USC so much? I mean, I can understand the appeal of West Coast schools because they’re relatively close to Hawaii, but why do so many people go to this particular West Coast school?

That is a pretty damn strong list. Not so much the list of schools (not downplaying it by any means) but the quantity of students going to these schools.

I go to a school where half the people end up going to JCs.

This year, my school had 15 people accepted to Stanford. 8 to Harvard, 6 to Yale, 7 to Princeton, 14 to Northwestern and 78 to USC. We’re in Southern California though.

And we’re a pretty good school, plus this was a big above average year.

So your school’s pretty amazing, those numbers are insane, even for four years. I have family in Punahou at the moment, it sounds competitive?

I live in Ann Arbor in a huge HS (near 3000), and our class (700 some) sent about 120 to Michigan I think.
