Hello,
I am looking for some opinions regarding where my skills in mathematics will land me in terms of the SAT Math IIC subject test and the ACT Math section.
If you’ve seen any of my past posts, I have always been an above-average math student. The problem was, I would consistently find my performances on standardized math tests to be mediocre in terms of top-tier schools.
My highest SAT Reasoning Math section was a 630. I hadn’t prepared much when I took it. My overall strengths in terms of both my SAT and my classes were in plane geometry, trigonometry, and data analysis. My problems have been mainly in algebra and operations.
I have spent the past two months (since June) reviewing mathematics in general. I retaught myself my high school’s geometry curriculum (learned a plethora of Pythagorean triples and methods of calculating tangents/differentiable curves), and I also reviewed mistakes I seemed to be consistently making. It turns out that sans careless mistakes, my highest possible SAT Math score would be a 660. That is no where near good enough for my endeavors. Therefore, I’ve kept practicing and studying.
I took a Math Level I practice test (not IIC) today out of curiosity. I was curious about how I would perform without any prep, aside from preparing for the ACT. I was surprised as I scored a 710. The reason this is surprising is the fact that I had not prepared and the curve is notoriously awful. Again, it does include concepts I enjoy (ones I mentioned prior); still, I do feel as if I am improving my skills in mathematics.
On the SAT Reasoning, my score was only in the top 18 percentile, and from what I’ve read, a 710 on Math Level 1 is only in the top 15 percentile. This does seem about right, but I do believe a score of 700+ would be suitable for most top-tier universities. Surely, this must demonstrate some sort of improvement over the past two months?
My question is: How do you think this will translate to the ACT Math section and the SAT Math IIC subject test? The ACT Math covers high school curricula as opposed to brain teasers I’m accustomed to from the SAT’s. The SAT Math IIC does not cover any of the content I am good at, but does include many concepts from Pre-Calculus. I maintained an A minus in Pre-Calculus this past year.
How feasible do you think it would be for me to attain a 31 on the ACT Math section and a 770 on the Math IIC?
