Rising senior.
Applying as a computer engineering/computer science major (name of the major differs place to place, like "electrical eng/comp sci at UCB, but you get the idea).
I’m hoping that the fact that I’m a girl who wants to be an engineer gives me a little bit of a hook in the admissions process.</p>
<p>3.88 UC GPA
I’m not sure about how to calculate this into my GPA but as a dancer, part of my technical training has included repeat ballet courses. For example, at a community college, I’ve taken what’s known as “Ballet 1” twice (three times by the time I graduate). I earned a B and an A in this class. Since this class meets UC A-G requirements and has been approved by the UC system, I can weight the class in my GPA but am I allowed to weight both times? The community college allows you to take the class four times but only get the transfer credits for one time (so I’ve received 4 units for this class but only 2 will transfer).</p>

Research internship - This summer I did a computer science research internship (paid) focusing on population growth and limits. It was supervised by a professor of computer science at a well known university. I am writing a paper that will be entered into several science fairs, including LA county and a fair at UCI. This paper will be edited by my supervisor (who is also an author of many textbooks) and several others.</p>
<p>Dance - ballet, tap, and jazz at a private studio from 1995 to 2008. ballet at community college from fall 2008 to present. jazz at community college from fall 2009 to present. no awards/competitions.</p>
<p>Insurance Marketing Internship - Internship at an insurance agency (my mom’s, that has to hurt me right? I wasn’t hired by her, but by a colleague of hers) creating mailers and marketing campaigns in the community. Unpaid for 5 months.</p>
<p>Key Club - Member junior year, President senior year. Focusing on Project CARE this upcoming year, as well as our goal of raising money to send at least 25% of our club to DCON2010.</p>
<p>National Honor Society/California Scholarship Federation - President junior and senior year, focus on member recruitment. Other than that, not much goes on there.</p>
<p>MESA - joined junior year but I haven’t been very active, going to competition this upcoming year.</p>
