My letter of rec makes me sound terrible

So I finally got to see the letter of rec my counselor wrote for me because I needed it for a scholarship. At the beginning of the year, she has this interview thing with all her students where we talk about our classes and ECs and then she writes the rec.

Well, instead of saying nice things about me, she let ME say the nice things, in quotes. And I didn’t actually say those things!!! The letter makes me sound like a self-satisfied braggart!!! At one point she quoted me as saying “I’m a motivator and leader all rolled up into one.” ***?! I would never say that!!

So basically how big of an effect will (at this point, DID) this have on my app?

The admissions committee will have a blast reading it and enjoy a good chuckle. That’ll get them in a good mood before proceeding with the rest of your application.

haha… Probably not much as sometimes they disregard poorly written recommendations. Maybe they will sense its not you, depending on the rest of your application.

As a favor to future students, your parents should talk to the head of your counseling department about this. It’s a disservice to students at your school.
