My Likelihood of Admission?

I had considered UMass to be something of a safety school, but lately I’ve been flipping through some of this year’s threads and they have made me nervous about my chances for admission.

I’m a homeschooled student. My SAT scores are 2020/2400, with 750CR, 590M, 690W. As an unschooler, I don’t have grades, per se, but I have taken college courses as a dual enrollment student at many different colleges, and my lowest grade has been a B+.
I’m involved in some interesting extracurriculars, including the teen advisory group at my local library, working as an intern at a living history museum (my intended major is History), and participating on a robotics team, where I’m part of the leadership and have been selected as a “varsity” member for two years in a row. My essay was pretty good, and my letters of rec

In summary, do you think I’m a strong applicant for UMass? Thanks to everyone who took the time to look at and respond to my query!

Hey there,

Im not sure how the application process is for homeschooled students. But I see why you would be worried. I checked here often and I always had way lower grades than anyone on the accepted EA thread (I was one of the last to find out). I got accepted with a 3.2 GPA (B average) and 1830 SAT (600 CR 650M 580W). I got in as a computer science major, lots of extra-curricular activities (at least 10)- and a challenging schedule. So again I’m not sure about homeschooled students, but I got in with a worse GPA and probably worse grades than you.

I think most of the members of CC are the higher achievers, and not the average student. Reading through their GPA’s and EC’s might make you nervous about yours. Be positive and best of luck!

SAT scores are above average. Extracurriculars are very good. B+ grades at CC. To me that spells acceptance. Also, your major plays a role. The more competitive admission are for subjects such as business and nursing.

But when you come right down to it, all you can do is put your best foot forward and when you get all of your acceptances, make the best decision you can.

Just to clarify some points, and because it looks like one of my paragraphs was cut off:

I have about a 3.8 cumulative GPA in the college classes I’ve taken. (I think this means a high weighted GPA but I’m not entirely sure how weights are assigned) I’ve taken ten classes at 4 colleges, 3 out of which were 4-year institutions.
My essay was structurally and grammatically sound, and talked about my passion for history, which is my intended major. In addition, my letters of recommendation were all extremely positive.

I predict that you will be accepted.

Do not worry about the fact you are a homeschooled/unschooled. Colleges have figured out that that cohort outperforms the standard admitted by a good margin. You will be looked at and, if you present yourself well, you have a good shot.
