Okay, I’m bored, don’t know why I posting this…maybe because it’s eating me out like a maggot.

Anyway, onto my story. I’m 16 years old (i’ll be 17 in October) living in the most populated city in the world and I seem to can’t find a girl to even chat with! I mean, I haven’t even spoken to a girl remotly my age in years. (other than my cousin’s bride) Yes, I’m that pathetic, really.
Now, my school is a private religious (although, none of the students besides myself follow it) school that is an all-boys school. Obviously, this doesn’t help at all. My shul (temple, church for my religion) has no girls my age at all. Not one. I met my best friends there, but there’s not one girl under 20 who attends. Period.

So, I mean, I always thought about it, but it never really struck me in the a$$ until around last March. Steadly and slowly, I’ve been feeling more heartbroken and hollow and empty inside. I fantasize about just hanging out with a girl almost all the time, whether chatting on AIM, taking the B train home from Manhatten, on the B100 to my house (to thouse who know what the hell I’m talking about, I just told you where I live! bars doors), listining to music, or typing this down now. And it’s not gonna get any better, either.

Moral of the story: To those on the forum thinking that a relationship would cause more harm than help, then I’m the perfect example of why you are oh so wrong. I’m not askin’ for help. I’m just bored and wanted to type something that nobody else typed on these boards. Ever. (unfortunetly for me, I didn’t make the above up)

Hey I hear you pal. I too went to an all-boys school, and it wasn’t until grade 12 when I had all my studies and applications in order that I could afford to go out and meet girls. At the beginning of grade 12, the few girls I knew and talked to were girlfriends of my friends. Now, I can barely keep track of all the people I know.

Some pointers?

Get involved. For example, joining the cast of a school play did wonders for my network of friends. I was no Laurence Olivier, and had only a bit role, but I was there every week, chatting it up and having fun.

You shouldn’t use sites like MySpace for meeting total strangers, but they can be incredibly useful for introducing yourself to friends of your friends. Things like phone calls or even instant messages are too personal, but a quick hello tag can just be casual enough.

I actually created this thread to conteract all the other threads involving relationships. Anyway, thanks. The thing is, though is that I’m afraid to bring home any girl without shock a skirt. Oh the horror. My mom specifically would go balistic if she found out that I’m going out with a girl that is not religious. Forget about diffrent religions. If it wouldn’t be for that, I’d go and chat with some of my friend’s friends on Myspace or even ask someone out in the street if she gives me the signs and is around my age. (which has happened on more than one occasion) So, until College, I settled on the idea that I won’t have a g/f until 12th Grade is over…and why I’m definetly going to dorm, and unless I get accepted to NYU or Columbia, I’m not going to be going to NYC for College ;)

Oh, and to girls reading this, if it sounds off or someting, it’s not intentional. Just late at night.

Eh, having a girlfriend isn’t that great, unless you’re absolutely desperate for the kind of physical liberty such a relationship entails.

Pros:

you’ll never be alone at parties or other social functions

you can “round the bases”

you may impress other people as someone worth dating

for the most part, your “cool stock” will rise

Cons:

you’ll never be alone at a party or other social functions

you’ll feel guilty every time you want to spend time with other girls, or even guys for that matter

since most high school relationships are not founded on love, even the hottest girl can quickly become annoying or boring

the inevitable breakup usually results in loss of friendship, or at least some prolonged awkwardness

For me, the cons outweight the pros. I’d rather much be chilling and flirting with my gal friends than be involved in a serious time-consuming relationship.

That’s because you hang out with them all the time. It’s not lke you are totally isolated from the opposite sex. Trust me. Your Pros would outweigh the cons.

You’re an Orthodox Jew (wondering because you used ‘shul’)? Well, I guess that does make things a little harder. Maybe you can switch around to a Conservative synagogue. I think there are going to be more girls your age in the Conservative and Reform synagogues than anything else. There are also lots of girls volunteering at animal shelters, zoo days, tutoring children, etc. Like the above poster said, lots of girls in theater. They could use a couple of guys now and then–if you can’t sing or act, you can be a techie and work backstage. Not that hard. You do live in New York City, after all. It’s just a matter of being in the right place and at the right time.

Like I said, my mom would literally strangle me. She’s kinda like that
(not literally strangle me. lol, but she won’t be happy, to say the least)

I get along with my paents, except for phylosophical issues such as politics and religion. It sucks that she has to be so strict on stuff like that.
Eurogirl, I would kiss you if it wasn’t a computer monitor in front of me. Oh well, I’ll do it anyway!
kisses monitor
lightning hits house
gets electrocuted
dies

LOL, thanks for the love, but why? Shocked at the shiksa’s knowledge? Seriously, on Jdate, there are a TON of Jewish girls in NYC–older of course, but they’re there. Maybe you should go to Brandeis or Hebrew University? But I think you should talk to your mom about this unless you really want the long-skirt/headscarf sort of girl as a wife. I mean, Pentacostals wear skirts and have the whole modest dress thing going on. Wouldn’t your mom want you to date a daughter of Israel, no matter how observant/unobservant she is, than the modest foreigner?

I’m beginning to understand the Jewish mother jokes, I think.

hey mozillameister, if you need someone to talk to, i’m always on AIM. Gam ani yehudii. My cousins go to yeshiva on LI. I know enough about what you’re going through even though I am conservative (Kosher at home though :)). Send me an IM if you wanna talk. L’hitraot!

What about volunteering or doing some sort of program at a local JCC? I bet that there are numerous Jewish youth groups about too (not that I know any off hand).

Eurogirl:loll. I actually am making every effort I can NOT to get to a school such as Yeshiva University, (it’ll be like HS all over again. lol) even though it’s one of the top U’s. Plus I can easily get into it and I can get a ton of aid from the school that’ll easily total to under 20G not counting need-based aid. (it’s easily a safety. if it ever comes down to this and Brooklyn C, I’d def. go to YU)

k-chen: Nope. It used to. (it was only 'till 8th Grade) The school’s too poor to have 2 buildings anymore.

jPod: loll, if I told you that, I’d confiscate confidential information! ZAP! Where in LI? I also have a couple of cousins that live in LI.

ChickenSoup88: Wouldn’t have time for that, anyway. SAT I, II’s, 3 Regents…too many tests…next year…dies

scorp: darth vader annoying squeal NOOOOOOOOOOOO (like arranged marriage except you can say ‘No’. No thankz.)

whoa, good job, original thread. That’s kind of crazy lol… we’re pretty ehem muslim but even we aren’t that strict. But then again, I didn’t go to an all girls school or a religious school [thank god, I couldn’t have stood to be around so many girls anyway], so maybe it would’ve been different otherwise.

Trust me :You got nuthin’ on us on strickness. Like I’m not even supposed to listen to music now…but then again I’m listening to Korn right now It’s not music! (that’s my excuse :/)
jPoD: Where in Nassau? LI IS only Nassau and Suffux. I’m just curious. Is it Woodmire?
