My Medicine fever!

I’m Ad from Syria, after finishing my high school, I went to science school and studied biochemistry. I was so inserted in Genetics and never thought about Medicine. as I graduated, I had the wired feeling ever in my life… I am totally into going to Med school rather than any other major. what makes me miserable that my dad advised me to study Med but i refused . he even offered me to study in Russia ( my high school grades didn’t allow me to go to med school where competition is too keen… they ask like 3.9 for gpa). anyway, after graduation, some of my friends went to Germany to do Genetics and others went to Jordan to do Pharmacy … the chance of Pharmacy is still open to me but I always thinking of Medicine. I don’t know what happened but I couldn’t sleep well the last 7 months I’m not kidding about it! my parents even took me once to a hospital when a nervous break down I had.

I don’t eat , I dropped like 20 pounds comparing with the last year. I changed my job 5 times in 6 months . I prefer to stay at home in my dark room 24/7.

I even cut my wrist, I wasn’t trying to suicide although I would like to, but I was too angry from myself. I feel like the biggest loser in the world. I blame myself all the time for not studying Medicine. in Syria, the only way to be a doctor is to take high school exams over and over until you get the 3.9 or higher which is so difficult to me

what confuse me the most is I didn’t think the way I do now when I was freshman . my father can’t offer me now to study in Russia or another place after bad economic situations in Syria especially after Iraq and Lebanon problems. I feel like the loser in hell ! I wish I was smarter in high school … I’m so missed up!

If you have an idea, please let me know !

No offense, but i dont want some one thats crazy like you being a Doctor…

dubya tee eff

clever wrxstiav and I ditto that

I don’t think you should be so hard on yourself. Things happen in life and you will have regrets because as a human you can’t tell the future. So the only thing left to do is think about why you want to go into medicine. If it is so you can help other people then consider other health professions; or, work to indirectly help people by making money and donating to heath organizations. There are many opportunities in life; don’t look at everything deterministically. It seems a lot like you are just depressed because you didn’t obey your parents. Be true to yourself and try to see exactly why you want to go into medicine so much. But for now, I suggest you go see a psychologist so you can stop cutting yourself. Learn from your mistakes, live for the present, and make wise decision for the future. That’s all you can really do.

Thank you theslowclap , that has been helpful although I can’t stop blaming myself . I realy like helping people and “wanna be a doctor from all of my heart” . I might consider pharm though, thank you .

Ayham84 I’m Syrian too and my cousin in Damascus is under the same stress. He took his exams and scored just high enough to be an engineer. So he’s retake the “bekaloria” again this year to score higher. its a shame that this one test determines your whole life. if you want to talk to me you can IM me on AIM- icedxblueeyez. I’d like to hear about your experiences.
