I know this may sound a little crazy, but I’m worried that my name is too ethnic. Will colleges judge you on your name? mine is really hard to pronounce, its basically ancient. will colleges reject you just because of your name.

and does anyone else worry that no one will be able to pronounce your name while you’re in college because it’s too ethnic?

no, no, no, lol…it won’t affect your application at all. heck it may make u the admissions officer a little bit more intrigued as he/she gets to read your app. btw, i think theres space for you to put a nickname along with your name, but someone correct me if im wrong.

Having a name that’s difficult to pronounce will not have an effect on your application, but having a very common name could severely hamper your chances of being admitted.

Come to think about it, my name, which highly resembles that of a celebrity who has recently been associated with a lot of negativity, might have unfavorably affected my application at top schools.

Having a name like Charlie is still better than a name like Osama.
Osama would probably have the worst effect on your Application if your name was considered.

Hmmm well most people would disagree with me, but I think having an unpronounceable name might hurt you. If the admissions officer can’t mentally link your profile and accomplishments to a name, it might not create a full picture. Subconsciously, when reviewing an application they would say “John competed in this…John won so and so…John volunteered here.” So without a name that comes to mind easily, it might make you seem more distant and unreal.
