My parents made me withdraw an application

I bet if you gave your GC the cash to send scores she’d do it for you. I think going to UAH is your best option. You won’t need a car there.

I want a Tesla, but there is no magic wand or money fairy that can grant me my wish.
Magical thinking that there has to be some way to get what you want is just wasting your time.
Time to face facts, and drop the idea that you can somehow afford Vanderbilt.

No friends who could drive you?

@bodangles I wish

@Dankjewel

UAH has ROTC
http://catalog.uah.edu/undergrad/academic-information/army-rotc-program/

are there any stores in walking distance? what are they? do you have a friend with a car who you do stuff with? do you have any relative sympathetic to your situation who can send your scores for you? can your AO use her card to send your scores and you just pay her back in cash? do you have a relative, friend, or acquaintance whom you can visit on spring break who lives near a bank, CVS, Walgreens, WalMart, etc?

throw us a bone here.

@Wien2NC uhh… no no no no and no

I do understand why you “want to get out of this craphole so quickly.” But it looks like the only way to resolve things quickly would be to simply agree to go to UVA and graduate in as little time as UVA would possibly allow you to. I’m sure your parents want to wait to see if you get into somewhere more prestigious, so you have until at least March 31 before any final decisions could be made. I’m just saying to try not to engage as much as possible before then. I’m sure there will be further battles after then anyway, depending on what happens in late March.

What kind of help do you want to get out of this thread?

@bodangles Honestly I have no idea where this thread is going either. It diverged so far from the original purpose

@Wilson98 Will do now thinking about it

@Dankjewel

Saturday morning, take a bunch of cash. tell your parents you are going for a walk. walk 2 hours to the nearest bank that has Saturday hours. bring ID, SS number, and whatever else you need. set up free student account. then walk to Walgreens or wherever you can get a prepaid VISA card. get some lunch. walk 2 hours home or get an Uber.

or you can just ask your parents to take you to the bank so you can have a bank account like any adult should have.

No…because it will be unaffordable.

And you won’t get a dependency override either.

Keep in mind also, that the best merit aid goes to incoming freshmen…not transfers. And some schools that meet full need for incoming freshmen do not do so for transfers.

You would be far smarter to pick a school to matriculate to as a freshman and plan to stay there.

@Dankjewel

will parents pay for another SAT test? then you can add UAH for free to list of schools who can get it.

@Wien2NC Nope

They care a lot about prestige

@Dankjewel

do your parents ever take you anywhere? will they take you to the bank?

is there ever a time in your life where you are in close proximity to a Walgreens, Walmart, CVS, etc where you can get a prepaid visa card with some cash?

if no and no, get ready for a long walk on Saturday.

@Wien2NC Nope. They would also get paranoid and call the cops if I try a long walk on Saturday.

My parents are like Scrooge. They refused to get me Christmas presents since 9~10(not kidding. for my 8th birthday, they forgot to get me a b-day gift and got me a crappy Club Penguin card and claimed it was from “santa.” Since then, I haven’t received a birthday or Christmas gift). However, they seem to have the money to spend on useless things though. No way they would drive me anywhere.

  1. Nope. Parents got a cheap house to save $$$ and went to a place with a crappy school district

Is there a bank near your school? How do you get to school and back? Do you have any relatives near by?

My parents drive me. Of course, I don’t have a car. No relatives.

I live in a hermit. Basically my whole family does

@Dankjewel You need an adult to mediate for you with your parents. Please talk to a guidance counselor or teacher at school.

Unfortunately, there is no way to force your parents to pay for a college. UVA is not a bad option. The fact that they want to pay for you to stay there even in the summer term is probably a good thing in your case. If you can get into UVA, take it one step at a time. They will also have a counseling center (likely better than your high school’s) and can help you analyze your life options.

Abuse (and I think you’re describing emotional abuse here, though there are two sides to every story) messes with your head in deep ways. You need guidance until you can think straight for yourself.
