@AroundHere The GC will only believe in my parents. They are cunning and manipulative, and they threaten me to not do any “strange crap like that or else”. This is from experience
I go to a crappy school with a horrible guidance department. Absolutely crappy. I had to email city administration myself to get a lot of stuff fixed
Google your county name and teen crisis, look for a confidential counselor who will not talk to your parents.
You can also try the crisis text line at 741741 and they may be able to find you a confidential counselor.
And again, if you get to UVA, you are out of the house and have access to counseling there.
@AroundHere No phone. Home phone is tapped. I am already in UVA
IF you are already “in” at UVA, then just have patience.
Come Sept your life will change and you will not longer be living at home.
@menloparkmom hopefully
it will.
trust me.
hang in there kid. :-*
I hate to say it…but this issue is a moving target. What’s next?
Phone is tapped.
Parents don’t give you Birthday or Christmas presents.
School district is crappy with poor guidance.
You have “a lot of siblings”. What are they doing?
lots of kids are successful, and independent after college without going to a top 20 college.
Didn’t you say you had $10,000 in possessions you could, sell?
And here is what I’d like to add…
Many colleges have a two year enrollment requirement…in other words…they won’t grant you a degree unless you take TWO YEARS of courses at their college. Someone needs to check the UVA policy on this.
And again I say…too many issues to resolve NOW. Change the ED2 application to RD and keep, your options open.
@thumper1 UVA does not. There was a person a few years ago that graduated UVA in 1 year WITH a double major. He came in with the same number of credits. My siblings are still in school, I have 2. Family became extremely frugal especially since the 3rd one popped out unexpectedly.

That’s what I meant by nvm. I do have possessions…

Nope. They would also get paranoid and call the cops if I try a long walk on Saturday. <<
Leave a note on the kitchen table saying you’re going for a long walk to clear your head and think this thru. If they call the cops that’s on them. Then go to a bank. Google “bank near me” to find one with Saturday hours. Ask what you need to set up an account and bring it. Then get your prepaid visa card.
Buy a used bike if you don’t have one. Then you can get into town much more easily.
I am already in UVA <<
What does this mean? You are currently attending or you just got accepted?
What happens to your $3000 yearly job? Do you hand everything over to them? Do you have fat stacks of cash lying around your room?
Home phone is tapped. <<
So you’re basically a prisoner then. You need to escape.
resisting will just get me in jail or a mental hospital (my parents threatened me with both options. Dad is ruthless and cold person.) ... They're like, "We have no money! Why should we sacrifice our assets for you? We could have aborted you or something so you should be grateful (my mom actually said that to me once)" <<
yeah. this is neither healthy nor normal.
but you don’t really seem interested in helping yourself get out of this situation since all I hear is excuses, so UVa it is i guess.
@Wien2NC Got in already. Half and half. About 5000 in cash in my room, the rest they made me succumb. I mean, it would be great if you could see where I am coming from, but the things you described aren’t so easy where I am right now (mind I didn’t tell you the full story. More like I can’t). Truly a situation between a rock and a hard place
@Dankjewel I was slightly wrong on the independent override. You’re still considered a dependent and you still don’t need anyone’s permission as long as you’re an adult, but you might still need to put your parent’s info on the FAFSA…maybe. You’ll definitely need to talk to an ROTC recruiter to get full information.
OP, how are you answering every post? Are you not in school?
Study hall and joke classes @CottonTales
If you have siblings away at university, you can write them letters or call them to ask them to pay the $11.25 fee to send your scores. Call from school. You can probably buy a stamp from a teacher - 50 cents.

Got in already. Half and half. <<
for heaven’s sake. what does this even mean? ARE YOU CURRENTLY ATTENDING CLASSES ON THE UVA CAMPUS?
About 5000 in cash in my room <<
can you just tell them “I feel uncomfortable having so much cash in my room, what if someone breaks in and steals it, can I please have a bank account so it can be safe?”
do you have a bike? will they let you get one?
why can’t you just leave a note and go for a walk?
You say you have lots of siblings. Are any of them in college now…or will they be soon enough?
College is costly…anticipating college costs for “a lot of siblings” would make many parents think twice about a binding ED2 decision.
So…back to you OP. Have you changed that to RD yet…or what?
You live like a prisoner but you’ve spent 8 hours on this thread without anyone stopping you.
Harvard, Stanford etc will not let you graduate in 2 years. They will not give you 68 credits for AP that you earned from your crappy school high school. You can’t get to a store a mile away yet think you are ready to run your own life, finance school, need a car (for what? I don’t think anyone needs a car in college).
Have you ever been to UVa? It’s a lovely school. It was one of my ‘dream’ schools for a long while. Your parents aren’t wrong that many Asians have complained about racial issues at Vandy. It’s definitely a southern school, and a different culture than you are used to.
Why do you think it will be cheaper to do the schedule you outlined, with J terms and summers, than to just go for 2 years? It likely won’t be since you have to pay all the same tuition plus room and board for those 2-4 extra terms. One semester is likely cheaper than 2 summers and 2 J terms.
@Wien2NC Oh, no I don’t.
Actually, that seems like a great idea. Hopefully my mother is receptive to this.
@TQfromtheU I’m the oldest
My parents have been putting pressure on me since little for HYPS as they saw me as the only viable option (both of my younger siblings aren’t the brightest bulbs on the Christmas tree), but at the same time, that caused our relationship to be disattatched. Think this got amplified during college app season, so maybe that’s why they’re pushing UVA (You’re a failure anyway so just go to state school)
Wait, you’re 18? If you go out for a walk on a Saturday and your parents call the cops, the cops wouldn’t do anything, unless maybe put out a missing persons report if you are missing for over a day. Adults can go for walks if they want.
I understand your situation because I experienced the same sort of thing as an 18 year old. I ended up putting myself through the local directional university because that was all I could afford. I didn’t want to be under my parents’ abusive thumb anymore. You should really consider seeing if you could find a way to get a full ride. My choice of college had little affect on my career decades later. What did affect my career, though, was my ability to hustle and think outside of the box. It sounds like you need to think outside of the box now. You might have to jump through more hoops to get started in I-banking from a lower-ranked college, but it certainly isn’t impossible.
And, BTW, my parents and I get along fine now. There were several years where we didn’t talk much, but I honestly needed that so they couldn’t influence me negatively.
