My parents wont pay for my SAT test.

I am a high school who was going to take the sat until recently, when my parents said they wont pay for anything, including sat, colleges, etc. What do I do?

You are a TENTH grader. You have a couple of years to save money to pay for the SAT. You don’t need to “get it out of the way” in 10th grade.

To pay yourself…

You get a part time job, and you pay for it yourself.

What is your parents reasoning for not paying for your SAT and College? They do not want you to attend college?

Maybe your parents won’t pay for this NOW because you are in TENTH grade.

Are you low income? Do you qualify for free/reduced lunch? If so, WAIT until spring of junior year to start using your free fee vouchers for the SAT and ACT.

Right now, your parents may feel it’s a waste of money.

You can also find ways to work/save and pay for these tests yourself.

Maybe you just had a big blow up with your parents and they made some threats in anger? If so, time to humble yourself and make up, or or the next few years are going to be rough.

Are there free vouchers to TAKE the SAT and ACT? I thought there were only vouchers to have the scores sent. But I could be wrong.

This student doesn’t have to take a SAT for 1 1/2 years…at least. Plenty of time to save money to take the test. Probably could earn that amount babysitting for one or two weekends.

But the bigger issue…this student says the family won’t pay for anything related to college. Is this absolute, or because the family isn’t ready to discuss this with a TENTH grader.

And to the OP…you want to go to Stanford…if you are really that competitive an applicant…I would strongly suggest that you save money for the PSAT which is administered at the start of 11th grade…and that score is used for NMS consideration. If you don’t get accepted to Stanford (95% of applicants don’t), being a NMF could be a good way to get some significant scholarship money at some schools.

Yes, there are vouchers to take the SAT and ACT for low income students.

School counselors identify eligible students at their school and distribute fee waivers to them. <<<

I believe that if you qualify for free/reduced lunch, your GC will give you the vouchers. Don’t know how many for the ACT and SAT…but there are some for both.

An SAT fee waiver is good for TWO SAT exams AND TWO subject SAT exams.

But this student would need to be low income…and we don’t know if that is the case.

This student has taken a bunch of AP courses.

@Destroyer990011 if you took the AP exams, who paid for THOSE? And who will pay for them this year?

As a sophomore, you aint ready to take an SAT.
Spot your error yet?

Your parents sound like they have common sense. I wouldn’t pay for an SAT either, in 10th grade. As far as college costs go, start a part time job. Look up your instate schools and figure out how to pay for them.

I think this kid spends too much time on video games.

Two months ago you asked to be chanced for Stanford. Your parents are probably trying to cool your jets. You are obsessing about college too soon. Concentrate on raising your GPA if you want any chance at Stanford in two years.
