you’re 13, and naive. you need to get a grip on real life. you can’t make outlandish statements and expect us to take them seriously. it’s good to have dreams, yes, and do struggle for them, but it’s unreasonable to expect everyone else to follow suit.

i can say that i want to become the president of the united states, that’s a dream. but if i was to say “i think i’m going to become the president of the free world, what do you guys think i should do when i get up there?” is unreasonable. and that’s what you’re sounding like right now.

why dont you start high school, see how things are going the first two years, and THEN come back for our opinions. otherwise, your vision of reality is warped and distorted.

If you’re the “next Kevin Garnett” then you dont need to worry about improving your stats; any college (except for Ivies, Cal Tech, Mit etc) will take you as long as you can read and write. This includes Stanford. Or just get like a 1100 SAT with average GPA and ur fine.

If youre really as good as at basketball as you say you are, then you shouldnt waste your time doing other stuff. PLAY IN THE NBA. MAKE SOME BUCKS.

Im still convinced that this is a freakin joke

I find it very annoying when applicants post their ridiculous “my chances” threads as if 17 year olds can tell you whether you’ll be admitted to schools with generations of admissions experience.

Trent Johnson, right? He left UNR for Stanford, which is probably a good thing, since the Wolf Pack is ranked around 22 now. No one seems to miss him any more.

hey you do know that it’s nearly impossible to predict how tall someone will grow, right? you might want to double-check with your doctor to see if he was being sarcastic.

but in case you do become the next yao ming, hook me up with free game tickets, k?

Please, excuse me if I come off as rude because that is NOT my intent.

I’ve been a member of College Confidential since 8th grade as well, and I admit, it’s great to get started early. I can relate to your story, as I have traditional Chinese parents who pressured me from an early age to attend Stanford University. I grew up with that school alone in my thoughts. It wasn’t until 8th grade when I encountered College Confidential and saw how narrow my perspective was. This forum really opened up my eyes in terms of college. I started out naive, but trust me kid, HIGH SCHOOL IS MUCH HARDER THAN MIDDLE SCHOOL. People with 4.0s all throughout middle school get to high school and suddenly discover they’re failing everything

There is no way to predict an entire high school career.

I too, live near Stanford. I am also Chinese. Chinese around here seem to have some mad hype over Stanford without even knowing anything about it other than the fact that it’s a good school. Calm down, learn what you can, and ask for your chances later. People would tell ME it’s way too early and I’m a sophomore. I’m half way through my high school career.

I’ll echo what forgottenhawk said. No, I don’t have a Chinese background (sorry to stereotype), but I started looking at CC around my freshman year because I wanted to get into a top college. There’s lots of great advice on this site (esp. from the parents), but just remember that you need to enjoy the journey (high school) and not just do everything for the destination (college). I was admitted into Stanford, and I did things that I truly enjoyed. If you’re doing certain EC’s just to get into college, you’re wasting your time, and you’ll quite frankly wear yourself out before you know it. Enjoy high school while you’re still a kid…it won’t last long! :)

Since you haven’t even been in high school yet, how can you predict exactly what you’re going to get on the SATs and SAT 2’s?! They’re harder than you think. And I don’t know anyone who’s gotten all 5’s on their AP tests. Ok and 2000 hours of community servie O_o. You need to just clam down and enjoy 8th grade.
