<p>You don’t send a transcript until you’re admitted and want to attend, so the rank that the admissions committee will see is whatever you put on your application (you might not have put anything).</p>
<p>The admissions committee members tend to specialize in regions and thus know the high schools of their applicants. Thus, they have a pretty decent idea of ranking - for grades 10 and 11 results - because they have historical correlations of UC GPA against the actual ranking for admitted students (once they send in their transcript) and they have the other applicants from your school to compare you against. They know whether you are the top or the 50th ranked applicant this year from your school, for example.</p>
