I’ve asked a professor whose class I’ve attended to be my referee. She asked me to draft a “statement letter” to describe my virtues that she might not know and send it to her as reference.

What am I supposed to say there? I’ve actually sent her my statement of purpose for one of the schools I’m applying to. Any comments are highly appreciated!!!

That sounds like exactly what she was asking for. It’s common practice to send your statement of purpose to recommenders to help them with their writing.

That’s what confuses me… I actually asked her through email, in which my SOP, along with other docs (cv and transcript), was attached.

in that SOP, i described my academic background, research experience and interests and how the school fits me. Is she looking for something more straightforward?

Is she asking you to write a draft of your own recommendation? Apparently, some professors do this, as shocking as it sounds.

I suggest that you write a document about your personal qualities in the context of academia (initiative, research abilities, independent thinking, etc.) and also re-send your SOP.

I have pretty much the same problem here. I have been asked to write my own rec letter not by one, but 2 profs! I am struggling to write as if I were 2 different people :(
