My risky "essay"

An essay would be far too trite,
So limericks will bring to light,
Why some think
I need a shrink
And will be more fun to write.

In a boring health class session,
It seems that I lacked some discretion.
In a whimsical tone
I’ll let this be known
In order to leave an impression.

In health there is much you will learn,
Many topics which hold great concern,
But Ms. P’s drawl
Does not enthrall,
It is the bell for which we all yearn.

She said to have kids is a crime,
As we’ve yet to reach our prime.
To keep spawn at bay,
There’s only one way,
Abstinence works every time.

While it might be O.K. to date,
There was never room for debate,
Morals clear cut,
No ifs, ands, or buts,
We’ll not be allowed to mate.

For hours she spoke with invective,
Said “birth control is often defective.”
Even after champagne,
Be sure to abstain,
For that is always effective.

The girl in the front was cute,
I wished the teacher was mute.
She spoke crazy,
Her argument hazy,
Her theory I should refute.

I needed just one case,
Any more would be a waste,
For one example,
Is more than ample,
For a theory to be displaced.

Then an idea popped in my head,
From a book that many have read.
The Virgin Mary
Proves contrary
To all that she had said!

I was speaking to only my friend,
But the teacher was quick to offend.
With hearing acute,
No sound too minute,
From this affront I could not amend.

When two dear ideas contradict,
The only choice left is be strict.
On guards you call,
On notes you scrawl,
From the room I was hastily kicked.

It got me wait listed at Mudd and Chicago despite no real EC’s. What do you all think?

I liked this! I feel like you should have focused more on yourself like you did in the first two stanzas because the poem then becomes a poem about your health teacher when this should’ve been your time to shine. Where did this “essay” actually get you into?

I liked it! Very creative, and shows you’re not afraid to take risks. I agree with sandra_ny2011, though.

Lol – I have to admit I thought it was funny and creative, but, like the two posters ahead of me, I am confused what this tells an adcom about who you are. Congratz on Mudd and Chicago, hope everything works out! Mr. HS.

agreed, you need to be deeper
