I’m volunteering with scholar match and my high schooler was just chosen as a finalist for Questbridge. She’s such a great kid with an amazing life story… so happy for her.
So…now what? Anyone help? We already ranked her top 15. Does she need to do supplements for those 15? What about common app? Guidance would be appreciated! QB website isn’t super clear.
Hello!
I was also just chosen as a finalist! Congrats to your kiddo!
As for supplements: Yes.
She will need to complete more essays and other requirements (depending on the school). Also, the CSS Profile and FAFSA are required by most of the college partners. In the next couple of days, the colleges should email her and send directions on how to open a student portal. (For example, I ranked U Penn, and they just emailed me saying my QB application is being loaded into their database and they’ll get back to me by tomorrow with my student portal info) Then she’ll be able to submit any additional application pieces. (To be clear, DO NOT submit a common app application; this would be a violation of the Match Agreement form)
Also, on the QB “Rankings & Regular Decision” tab on her application, if she scrolls down there should be a checklist for each school with Match requirements listed.
All applications are due on Nov 1st, so she’ll be on a time crunch since she ranked all 15 schools.
If you need any other guidance in the process I would love to help! Just personal message me. I would love to have somebody to talk to about the Match, even if we just help each other with essays, or give each other advice.
I agree with the above…yes on common app, yes on all the supplements. Each school’s portal will tell the student exactly what they need.
The student should also submit a few apps to affordable highly likely schools now, if they haven’t already. So that could be their state flagship/other publics, a rolling admit school, etc.
However, It’s important to note that you cannot submit any applications (except through QuestBridge) until Regular Decision. (again, this would be a violation of the Match Agreement)
Exceptions to the QuestBridge Early Application Policy
Students may apply to any college or university that requires an early application for eligibility to special scholarships or programs, as long as the admissions decision is non-binding.
Students may apply to their home-state public college or university with a non-binding early application option, as long as applying to QuestBridge does not violate that college’s policies.
Students may apply to any college or university with a non-binding rolling admission process.
So, there’s no reason to not apply to a rolling admit school and/or one’s state public(s). As for any college applicant and their list, it’s important to have at least one affordable highly likely/safety school.
She is applying early action via common app for her state flagships STAMPS scholarship, so that appears to be okay. There is also a small in-state private that has a handful of full merit scholarships, but the app is due Nov 1. It’s non binding, so also seems to fit the exception.
Good to know that the schools will contact her, we were kinda lost as to next steps.
I wouldn’t wait for the schools to send portal information. She only has until Nov 1 to get all the application materials in for each college she ranked.
