My Senior in High School said the Funniest Thing

I laughed my head off.

My husband managed to get away to have lunch with our daughter, who is in a high school on a college campus.

Daughter said,

“You know, you and Mom have become MUCH more reasonable this year, I’ve noticed.”

Riiiight. We have changed SO MUCH in our middle age. LOL

No, SHE is just growing up! Finally.

I told my husband that within 5 years we are going to hear, “You know, I’ve noticed that you and Mom are SO much more intelligent now than you used to be.”

;)

I used to tell my teens, ‘I’ll get smart when you turn twenty!’

Mominva, 23 seems to be the magic age where I’m no longer dumber than a sack of hammers.

I think they slowly start to figure out we know a thing or two when they hit college. DS is a college freshman and on Saturday he called me on the phone about something and after I told him what I thought, he was sure I was wrong about it… On Sunday night he told me he realized that I was right. :)

lol, reminds me of Mark Twain

I think it depends on the kid. Our 18 year old daughter has never thought (or said) we were stupid. Still waiting for our 16 year old son to realize we’re not idiots.

I’m thinking you are a little optimistic. Though I managed to luck out with this tiny glimmer of light, I know that I didn’t think my parents knew anything until closer to 30!

Ha ha

I don’t think she thinks we are QUITE that dumb…but I can’t guarantee it.

Yes, I thought of that quote as well!

I am still waiting for my college freshman to realize I’m not a useless idiot. This summer on our family vacation, I tried to have a friendly chat with her (hard to do this past year without getting my head bitten off). I asked her if she and her college roommates had thought about how they wanted their furniture - whether to loft or bunk the beds. She responded as if I were 2 years old, “Mom, no one LOFTS their bed in COLLEGE.” I had to just bite my tongue. She and her roommates are now comfortably enjoying their lofted beds.

I think you missed a mandatory “eyeroll” in your post Nova2nola. :-)

Tempemom - True!!

This is a great thread. I love the Mark Twain quote and the OP’s and nova’s stories.

I am right there with MassMomm - for some reason our 18 yr old DD has always been accepting of our input and advice but our 16 year old son has yet to learn from us or his older sister! Although in the last couple months I have heard him say twice “you were right mom”!!!
