Upcoming freshman Fall 2026:

My son got accepted at CTU, Baylor and SMU: major: Business, accounting law. He is not sure which school to choose. No financial aid from TCU or SMU, Baylor offered some but not much.
Looking to see which school will provide better options for internships, and has greater opportunities.

International or domestic student (and state of residency if domestic).

Student preferences beyond the above (including weather, class sizes, campus culture, college demographics, fraternities/sororities, distance from home, etc.).

Preliminary assessment of each college based on the above.

“Accounting law”? Does your son plan to attend law school? If so, please consider how that will be financed…federally funded student loans are limited to $50,000 a year for law school now.

Accounting - all three are fine. Baylor is religious. TCU less so and SMU not. Dies that matter ?

Accounting is a great major But kids find internships They are not given But today at least, accounting has great prospects.

Go with where you can afford and then where you prefer. Good luck

@Caly in your subject, you say your son got accepted to CTU. Did you mean TCU? If so, I can change that for you. If not…what is CTU?

I wondered the same but in the thread they say this - so i assume they mean TCU.

CTU (if not a typo) is for-profit and mostly online. While for-profits may be ok, it is harder to select IMO with these other options.

Baylor has been my client for a while and I found the campus impressive when I recently visited and toured. SMU is equally strong. Baylor is known for student support so that is a big plus if it is a religious fit.

I think SMU has a strong business department. Plus there are tons of businesses located in the greater Dallas Fort Worth area.

If he was a direct admit to Cox at SMU that’s a plus. The gpa to get admitted after is pretty high. Guessing the school cultures might be a little different, and he might prefer one over the others. Dallas is booming and jobs/internships didn’t seem that hard to obtain. My son graduated 9 years ago though so my info might be dated, although I don’t think it is. My son got a great job after graduation. Apso there’s more of an SMU alumni network outside of Texas, I think, if that’s a factor.
