My son has a bulge in his gastric atrium.

Hopefully someone with some experience with this will chime in. He’s had terrible pains at the top of his chest about 5 times since the fall. He finally went to a gastroenterologist who did an endoscopy and discovered the bulge. Said that what was probably causing the pain and to take Nexium for 90 days. They did a biopsy of several areas, plus part of the colon and thankfully everything came back negative. He had a CT scan, same negative.

The biopsy letter didn’t say anything else! Just see you at follow up. Um…he and (and I) have several unanswered questions about this. So, he will be calling.

My question, has anyone else experienced this?

Gastric antrum???

No experience but do you mean gastric antrum? Don’t hesitate to call and request either time on the phone or an office visit to ask your questions.

How did they get colon biopsies from an upper endoscopy? Did he also have a colonoscopy?

Since Autumn, or since he had a fall?

Yes, must be antrum @abadket. The report said biopsies were taken from small bowel, the duodenum. My mistake.

Try to get more exact terminology than “bulge.” Does he have a hiatal hernia? That’s when part of the stomach “bulges” into the chest. It is very common, can cause pain, and might be initially treated with Nexium. Not really something to worry about, though.

My husband has a hiatal hernia, and oddly, even though this is structural problem, it’s usually treated with medication. That sounded bizarre to me when I first heard about it, but apparently it’s pretty standard.

Did the CT scan make sure he doesn’t have an inflamed or infected gall bladder? I would ask just make sure there aren’t two things going on. Hope he is feeling better soon.
