My son was never a great student during his high school years… in fact, he JUST passed high school when he graduated 17 years ago. He got into a 2 year college that was 4 hours away from home and was able to dorm there. He did terrible and failed out. He then started community college the following year and switched my major and did much better. He then got diagnosed with a really severe case of Anorexia Nervosa and was also diagnosed with other mental illnesses like depression. He was always tall and thin, but he reached 104 pounds at 6’3. He was hospitalized and went to a treatment center across the country. He has withdrawals from that whole semester and we weren’t able to do anything about it. When he came back and thought he was strong enough to go back to school he wasn’t. He ended up Havana to withdrawal a whole another semester of college. 3 1/2 years later he went back to the same community college and switched his major AGAIN and into a field where the courses he was required to take were the hardest you could imagine ( think medical field classes) he he did excellent. He now just graduated with his associates and applied to his schools to transfer. Do you think there is any chance he will get in because of his bad history with his grades/education and also the 2 full semesters of withdrawals?
I have no idea if you are the parent or the student. “switched my major”
If you/he did graduate from HS 17 years ago admission is viewed totally differently. Most recent performance is weighted much more than something that happened over a decade ago.
what colleges does he want to transfer to?
The Transfer Advisor at the community college where he completed his associates degree is the person who is in the best position to advise him on this. If he is concerned, he should speak with that person.
There is nothing that you can do about things at this point except to encourage him to stay positive through the whole process.
