Wow Columbia 2010, I didnt realize that.

So this is like a scam to take info from kids to sell for 15000 to run a business?

creepy

Wow Columbia 2010, I didnt realize that.

So this is like a scam to take info from kids to sell for 15000 to run a business?

creepy

hey columbia, where can i found out about this company that youre talking about?

i dont see any reference to it.

oh **** youre right.

that would be insane

yeah the scary thing is that he’s probably right.

Now the name “Roger_Dooley” seems really ominous.

in defense of the company, come on! they’ve been providing us with the room and bandwidth to hold college discussions for the last few years. many of us have gotten helpful information/advices from others on this board. even roger_dooley and david posts occasionall in threads to give advices. if money was their primary concern then why bother giving free adivces?

this is one of the only few sucessful college discussion boards out there, so what if the company running it is a college consultant company?

last comment (not meant to be a flame) anyone else noticed that all of columbia 2010’s posts are flaming other companies? from apply now to college confidential… I wonder why he’s got against them…

The company that sponsors these boards are counseling students on getting into school.

Link above and see what you think.

Who all here paid the $15,000.00

Did this Lynda person?

She is very, very suspect to me.

the word is suspicious btw

and no I did not. if you wish to continue the personal attack, please direct it through the pm system as flaming is not tolerated on the boards.

anyone who which to further this discussion see the thread in the columbia 2010 board.

and I’ve answered your question … about 3 times. who’s ignoring who here? lookking forward to meeting you next year.

wait, what is he suggesting as to a conspiracy, can someone explain exactly the conspiracy theory columbia 2010 is putting forth?

basically, he’s saying that cc uses these boards to collect information on admitees, applicants etc. so that they can sell their information to students using their programs for $15,000.00. This is not unlikely–they set up these boards, so why not make use of them? However, as this is a mutual symbiosis, and we all benefit from the same information that the owners of cc get from the boards, I don’t see what the problem is.

I had similar stats, Asian male, competitive NJ school, same SATs, GPA was a bit higher, plenty of ECs. I also got defered.

Honestly, Columbia ED is mystifying to me… you seem like you’d definitely have gotten in. But don’t lose hope, you’ll get in somewhere amazing RD… this kid last year (brilliant, took Calc AB in 9th grade, amazing pianist) got flat- out rejected at Columbia ED last year and went on to get a full ride to Princeton. I’d talk to your guidance counselor about new strategies, maybe revise your essay/send a supplemental essay, get an extra rec, etc. Also, if you’re confident enough, you might send a recording of yourself (I don’t know if you did this already…). Good luck!

Don’t think of this as a bad thing. I was deferred and ultimately rejected from Columbia last year, and now I’m so glad I was. Now I see all the bad aspects of the school- I could list more negative than positive things now probably, and I’m really happy where I am. You’re obviously qualified, so you’ll get into other great schools that will probably end up being a better fit anyway. Good luck with other applications!

well it’s interesting at my school because the one kid who applied ED is an asian male with a 3.7 gpa and a mid 2200s SAT score–he was accepted, he has okay e.c.s and he’s a decent writer. i’m not entirely sure what’s going on

I was also defered, though I must admit your ECs are far more impressive than what I have.

Decision: DEFERRED

Stats:

GPA: 4.19 weighted
Rank: School does not rank.
Other stats: PSAT semi-finalist, 5’s on AP USH, Chem, Calc BC, and English Language.
Subjective:
Essays: May have been too controversial, talked about race and affirmative action, and my personal experiences and opinions concerning them, from an Asian viewpoint.
Teacher Recs: Good to excellent, respectively, one is from my AP Gov teacher and another is my AP Language.
Counselor Rec: No idea, but my counselor likes me.
Hook (if any):

School Type: Competitive Public
Ethnicity: Asian-American
Gender: Male
Other Factors: Varisty Cross Country, President of the Asian Cultural Studies Club, Delegation Leader for Model UN, various MUN awards and Cross Country medals.
