First, I want to say that I am aware that some of the schools on my list are extreme reaches for me. I am not fooling myself. This is just a list I have that I am currently researching. There are a few I am definitely applying to. But the rest, I am researching still.

My stats are 2090 on the SAT. I am going to retake in October. I have all AP classes and preAP where possible, ending with 11-12 APs (depending on how my schedule ends up this fall). I am in NHS, Mu Alpha Theta, French Honor Society (president next year). I qualified for science honor society but I got overlooked accidentally. I can still join next year, but that will be after applications. My unweighted GPA is about a 3.73. My class ranking is right at the 10% mark. I attend a top ranked (and blue ribbon) public school. I take all my math through EPGY instead of the local schools. I take my SAT 2 in November.

My main EC is orchestra. I play for the varsity orchestra and city orchestra. I take lessons from someone who is well established with musicians (she graduated from CIM and grad school at Juilliard). I used to go to Interlochen, I did not go this year or last. I have earned a variety of awards here, plus, the school orchestra as a whole has earned several awards, including one national one. I have also played for some fundraisers for things such as a Joplin Fundraiser and a Japan Tsunami one.

In volunteer work, which I was doing well before NHS ever said I had to, I volunteer at an environmental and research center. Mostly, I help with the science day camp, I teach a lot, and I do some maintaining the grounds. This has been hard work. It is 100 degrees here during the summers and we wear long pants, no a/c, no indoors. One of the workers had a heat stroke last week. I plan to continue to do this. I love doing this actually.

I have had other things I have done over my high school years. I used to fence. I volunteered with wheel chair fencing to help disabled people do be able to fence. I also volunteered as a runner at the junior olympics. I had to give up fencing when my schedule got too busy. It would be nice to be able to do some of this in college, but definitely not a must have.

Obstacles I have overcome…I used to be severely hearing impaired. Now I am mildly impaired. I have no special services at school or otherwise. None of my teachers actually know this. My parents were once told that I could not learn how to read. And when I started music, the teacher had her doubts. But now, I play music, take AP English and just finished AP French with a high A (and the highest grade in the class). So, my SAT reading score is not as high as I would like it to be (640) but it really is very good considering.

My list is very long. I am a legacy for 2 of the colleges on this list. I know some of these colleges, I have no chance at. I would love some feedback. Especially specifics on some of the colleges on the list.

Rice University, Trinity University, Baylor University, Southwestern University, TAMU, Austin College, UT Austin (Plan 2), and OU.

Oberlin, Williams, Carnegie Mellon, Swarthmore, Haverford, Bowdoin, Middlebury, Amhearst, Dartmouth, Colby, Princeton, Yale.

Georgia Tech, Washington and Lee, William and Mary, Emory, Vanderbilt, Rhodes.

Harvey Mudd, Pomona, Cal Tech, Stanford, Whitman, U of Washington.

Carleton College, St Olaf, Macalester, Grinnell, U of MN, Washington U.

One more thing, I need financial aid and should qualify for what I need. But, I might be able to earn a music scholarship at some of these schools.

Thank you for your help. If I am unable to answer, I am going to be at TAMU NSI for the next couple days. But, I am going to try to check from my phone. I am unsure if I will have the time to check though. I hope to see plenty of feedback though! I will look tomorrow before I leave too. Thank you so much everyone! And please know, I am not fooling myself by thinking I can get in to Stanford or Yale. I just left them on the list as “severe reaches.”
