My stats say I won't get in, but I have a hunch I will and my hunches are always righ

For RD,

This hunch is preventing me from applying anywhere for Early Decision. Also, the hunch is telling me that I won’t be getting in SCEA. This hunch I get is accurate quite often

Wait, how did you include your senior year in your cumulative GPA? With a 3.4 that assumes you will have a 4.0 senior year, it’s a LONG shot, whatever your hunches say. Your ECs are, however, quite good, and your ACT is excellent, so I guess that you do have a chance. The legacy may help a tiny bit for SCEA…I would say you have slightly above-average chances, but unfortunately that’s only around 10-15%. Good Luck, I may be applying SCEA too!

Seriously? I thought I was going to read a post with stats that made it blatantly obvious you weren’t getting in. Obviously Yale is a very hard school to get into and no one on this forum can legitimately chance you, but your stats seem pretty good to me. The odds are against everyone but you seem qualified. Lets just see if you have that bit of luck that will get you in.

Sirensong, his GPA seems low out of context, but he is in the top 10%. Maybe that GPA is high at his school.

I have senior year grades because my schools been started. my 1st MP is almost over lol and I have

Physics AP - 100
European History AP -92
World History AP -97
English AP - 92
French AP - 91
Multi-Variable - 95
Psychology AP - 100
Spanish AP - 94
US History [Online] - 99 [completed]

heh go figure compared to what I had before [now that what happened during my 1st 3 years is out of the way]

My resume say I’m not an admissions officer, but I have a hunch that you will get in and my hunches are always righ

good chances. now work on essays

Sends many students to top schools

This is a pretty serious statement. If you are in such a school, then getting into Yale with such stats is a long shot.
This means that you will have to write your essay. From my friends in the 2013 forum (I miss it!!), their essays sent them to other schools like Duke and WUSTL, but not Yale. I cannot tell you that your stats are ABSOLUTELY BAD, but I can say that if your GPA from a rigorous course load is not high, there are others who have higher GPAs and test scores.

College admissions is a fierce competition!! Do not forget this. I see that your ECs are pretty strong, and if your essays (which should NOT talk about hw your ECs are this and that) can explain why you are in the Gay and Straight Alliance and the Bio Club at the same time, then you are def fighting with the top guys and girls from private schools and etc. Do not forget, there are so many applicants and very limited spaces.

It’s kind of impressive that you got C at honor math and chem but still got great SATII scores. How did you make it?

lol

well freshman year I caught chicken pox and caught an infection afterwards, i was out for 3 months

sophomore year i catch mono; I’m out for two months

junior year my parents are talking a potential divorce [caused more psychological problems] I was doing well first semester

I knew the material, I just got screwed over by certain events

I hate chances threads.

You are not going to get in SCEA. You shouldn’t even apply then, because you might well be rejected. You probably shouldn’t be applying anywhere early. You have a chance RD. You need to focus on colleges that will definitely accept you, though, and that you would be happy attending. Despite your hunch, and despite the fact that great senior grades could make you a competitive candidate, it is not very likely you will be attending Yale

DO NOT take any more SAT IIs. No college wants to see more than three, and it jusst looks weird if you keep taking them. Plus, you don’t even want to send any of your SATs to anyone if you can get away with just sending your ACT, unless you can use score choice to avoid sending your SAT Is.

Don’t bother self-studying for AP tests, either. It won’t help you get in anywhere if you are taking the tests after admission, and it won’t give you meaningful credit at most colleges. Concentrate on your grades, you really want to nail this semester.

JHS, when you say self-studying won’t help… it’s because he’s already a senior, right?

JHS is exactly right. I think Yale is an extreme longshot for you, because of your grades. There’s no harm in applying to Yale, but you need to have a realistic list that includes matches and safeties. I also agree that your best bet is a place where you can rely on your ACT. Don’t take the Literature SATII–you got a 640 on SAT CR, your lowest score.

Your hunch is wrong.

ignore these detractors.

But first, let’s address some questions you brought up. 1. Send in you ACT’s. 2. You may want to send your SAT’s as well because your SAT II’s make a strong argument for your competence, despite your letter grades. 3. Have your guidance counselor write a letter outlining the difficulty you have faced. 4. Spotless senior year grades will certainly help your case to admissions officers. 5. Since you may send in your SAT II’s and Yale does not accept scorechoice, your SAT I’s will show up on your score report as well. You may want to then retake your SAT I’s

I have a concern that you took 9 AP’s but will only list 2 scores. This indicates that perhaps the others weren’t that great. Am I right or wrong?

I like your EC’s because they aren’t completely disjunct. You somehow managed to incorporate your theater work into your community service. But what about your research? What was it on? And badminton club? You have to tailor down your list of EC’s to maybe two of three focuses.

Nobody here can tell you whether you can get in. But, apply RD and see what happens!

Ivy league schools like their legacies I hear. 3rd generation Yalie is interesting. Does your hunch have anything to do with an influential family member?

I’ve taken 9 AP Classes, but they are mainly in senior year

I took us1ap at my school, but they didn’t allow taking the ap test until 2 years. I took the 2nd year online.

Technically I’ve taken 2 real AP Classes

nah my family members aren’t really that influential

I’m not even positive if my grandfather counts because we aren’t blood relatives because my father was adopted

Adopted children are treated exactly the same as natural children for such purposes.

Unfortunately, my legacy status to UPenn won’t be nearly as helpful when I apply RD.

heh i got in =]

Was that to Duke, Emory, Swarthmore, or Penn?

Musta been that “weegie” board essay.
