My summer guilty pleasure

Garland, I admit to both being on the west coast (so the Tour starts at 5:30 AM or earlier on OLN) and to Tivo-ing it so I don’t have to watch the commercials or the hours when it’s just the peleton churning away. The first few Lance years I watched to keep my husband company, but I got hooked on the strategy and the timing involved. (And now that we’re jointly running a bike parts business, of course I have to know what’s going on.)

Floyd was astonishing yesterday. The Wall Street Journal, of all places, has TWO articles about him today, much to my amusement. I think the stage yesterday will go down as one of the great stages for all time. Floyd just pretty much left everyone in his dust. I also enjoyed the shots of his beautiful wife chewing her perfect nails nervously as she waited for him to get to the finish. It’s hard to understand how he could ride like that with the hip damage he’s got. I am eagerly anticipating the time trial. (And I’d love to see a sprint finish in Paris, too, instead of the ceremonial laps.)

Okay, okay - what channel carries Project Runway again? My good friend loves it, but I keep forgetting to check it out. Now you’ve all convinced me.

Agree with above that America’s Got Talent is a sorry excuse for an American Idol knock-off. But that a capella group “At Last” knock my socks off and I tune in when they’ll be on, switching to something else for most of the rest of the show.

Add me to your list of “Project Runway” addicts.

jmmom,

You can see project runway on Bravo on wednesday starting at 9 pm. in NYC the 9 pm episode is a repeat of last week’s show with the new coming on at 10pm then repeating through out the week.

RE: Project-- D is a Gawker Stalker and told me last night that Keith (won 1st week with blue dress) got caught stealing designs from the Elle show. Nina Garcia must be fuming!! Can’t wait for the drama. Andre ! Andre ! Where is Andre?

Keith is a rather smarmy fellow. Did you see the way he positively leered at Miss USA during his gown pitch?

Could Keith be the one asked by Tim to leave the competition that was shown on the program teaser? If he lifted designs the producers knew it and let him in anyway. And having Tim confronting him on camera would certainly create high drama.

Stay tuned… ;)

GreenDayFan - My list is pretty similar to yours. I watch all the Big Brother episodes, but not the online thing. And I watch Fresh Meat and So You Think You Can Dance when I catch them.

And add me (and my parents) to the Project Runway list!

my dance teacher martha is on So you think you can dance

but she got kicked off this week

Martha is your dance teacher?!?! thats so cool, she was good.

The only reality show I watch is “Amasing Race” , the rest is “not me” . But! in the summer, SOMETIMES I watch “My Super Sweet 16” , so I guess it may qualify as a guilty pleasure. It scares the heck out of me. Mainly though I just read mystery novels 'till almost morning. I am very much into Lee Child’s Jack Reacher books right now.

I have watched a couple seasons of Amazing Race - when I get hooked I’m really hooked… “My Super Sweet 16” scares me too, but in such a way that I avoid it at all costs!

My guilty summer pleasure to date has been even more low brow than television: Las Vegas. DH and I spent a long weekend in Sin City with no offspring in either sight or mind, and frankly, had a blast. We stayed at the newest casino, the Wynn, on the 25th floor with long light-studded views of The Strip at night and desert mountains by day and room service breakfast. (Not one but two days in a row. Highly recommended.) What more can I say — Vegas simply encourages all one’s basest instincts because, well, that’s what it’s there for. We went to high-class restaurants and low-class bars, saw one great show and several free ones, watched a minor celebrity check into our hotel with minor entourage in tow and got panhandled later by a double amputee with a glass eye. Saw a family of six stop in their tracks to watch a minimally clad pole dancer perched above the slot machines in the Rio casino. That’s Vegas. I can take it in small doses and three days was more than enough, particularly in July.

Garland: We also caught the Angels and part of a Mets game while playing video poker for comped drinks in the sports bar. Every game in the country that anyone could possibly have placed a bet on is playing simultaneously on screens that ring the walls in the sports area. Baseball heaven.

jimbob, how cool that Martha is your dance teacher. She was awesome! Unfortunately, I think all the girls left are great and each week, will just be a crapshoot as to which one gets booted. My favorites are Danyelle and Allison, I think technically they are great and they seem to be so upbeat all the time. Of the guys, I hope that Ryan goes next. I think he is a good dancer, but he seems to have a bad attitude, then Ivan after him. He is a great break dancer and has done a good job, but Benjy and Travis are incredible.

Intersting about Keith on Project Runway. They have made a big deal about somebody doing something unethical and against the rules. Stealing designs would definitely be both of those and subject to expulsion. OOH, big drama to ensue.

Kate, I am also a big Amazing Race fan and really enjoyed last season because it seemed to get back to “amazing”; the locations were good and the tasks were tricky. The family edition left me cold and I quit caring about who would win.

I have been Amazing Race fan since the second season, but stopped watching the family edition halfway through. Last season was MUCH better, and “my team” won, so it was even more satisfying experience. :-)
