My teacher does online gambling during class

My teacher does online gambling during school classes, when he is suppose to teach.

Is this legal? Should I report it?

Thanks all

yes. you should report.

Is online gambling illegal, though?

Is he winning?

Why are you not doing your assignment and paying attention someone else’s business?

@thisoldman: Your joke is not funny.

@OP: I can’t believe a teacher is neglecting his responsibilities like that. You should definitely report him to the proper authorities. It doesn’t matter if gambling is illegal or not. The important thing here is that he is not teaching when he is supposed to. Don’t let him get away with messing around with your education.

Are you doing in class work while he does this?

Is the class AP Statistics?

if he splits the take with the class, i don’t see a problem

I thought TOM’s question was funny, as well as Xiggi’s AP Statistics comment.

If it’s really bothering you, go report it. What more can we say? To say the least, it’s unethical, but you should go to your school authorities regardless.

most school districts block those sites from access through school computers… is he playing computer solitaire?

first off are you certain? When do you observe this? I would be very careful about any accusation like that… I would let your GC know your concern.

However, if it’s solitare or computer black jack program and not ACTUAL Gambling…do you understand there’s a difference?

is this being done during time where you’re testing or reading? or do you just sit there and do nothing while he plays?

How are you doing in the class?

If you are sure that he is gambling when he is supposed to be teaching, report it to your principal. Definitely. But it’s kind of sad that teachers have to resort to gambling in order to make up for their low paycheck.

^^^ Not really–it’s one of the most underpaid professions. I’d say it’s pretty smart actually (although not necessarily in class)

My son had an elementary school teacher who did a ton of online stock trading during class. He gave me a stock tip I made a bunch of money on…

But it did bother me. I felt he wasn’t focused on his teaching. I did not report it though. It was hard for me to judge how much time he was spending on it. He would do it when the kids were doing an independent assignment.

@thisoldman: Your joke is not funny.
My comment was meant to be neither funny or not funny. Its a thought comment.

In my world, the job of my son is to do the best he can do, regardless of the the quality of teacher or resources. If he gets a B or C, then perhaps he isn’t doing his job (being a student) well enough.

In the work world, your job is to do your job and do it well. What your supervisors do, is the concern of their supervisors. You will not endear your self to others.

I used to work at this company and boss of my boss traded stock on-line all the time. How did I know? The admin said she walked in on him many times.
For this student, my 99cents advice is learn to stay out of trouble, it’s not your business. The school should have a policy to check on this or the principle should. Sooner or later it will catch up with this teacher.
My D saw a lot of kids in her class cheat on French exam but she did not report them eventhough it may make her look like she is not learning her stuff.

I’d say report it to your parents who can talk it over with you. I know my son wouldn’t feel comfortable going directly to a principal.

Thanks all,

But do you know if its illegal or not. Cause if its not, I won’t report it.

on-line gambling is not legal.

I am baffled by some of the responses who asked him to stay out.

Sometimes people play with play money and that is like playing video game.

99cents don’t give me that crap. It is not worth a dime. You think it is ethical for a teacher to play poker either with real money or play money in front of minors? in a class room?

And before you tell me what do I know about gambling, let me tell you I frequently visit casinos in LA. I know what gambling is.
