My teacher messed up my recommendation on Common App!

So here’s my predicament:

I asked a teacher to write a recommendation for me and I waived my rights to read it. But, my teacher showed me the recommendation anyway to see if there were any mistakes, and there is a big one. He said I got a 4 on his AP World History class when I really got a 5. And he already submitted it onto the Common App.

I’ve also self-reported my AP scores on Common App, saying that I got a 5 which CollegeBoard officially reflects. But I can’t submit AP scores to colleges, and I’m afraid that colleges are going to get a lesser impression of me if they think I got a 4 or, even worse, think I’m a liar for exaggerating scores. Because right now it’s my word against my teacher’s.

So is there a number I can call or email I can send that will help me solve this problem? Or do I have to call each individual college? But I waived my rights, so I can’t technically do that without admitting I broke the law, right? Is it even that big of a deal?

Any answers or shared experiences would be awesome. Thanks!

Sorry, I don’t have an answer to your main question, but I’ll say that you didn’t “break the law” by reading your recommendation. Teachers are allowed to show you the recommendation even if you waived your rights to see it. One of my teachers sent me her recommendation (after she submit it) even though I waived my rights to read it, and I heard of a lot of people on CC seeing their recommendations. That part shouldn’t be a concern.
I hope your situation gets resolved!

Why would he show you the recommendation to check for mistakes if he already uploaded it? That is really illogical.

If he is willing to send an old fashioned letter by mail to the admissions office, he could explain the error. They do accept documents sent that way.
