Hello, I was wondering what my transfer chances would be like…

A little about myself:
I attended Rutgers about 4 years ago as a freshmen and I pretty much received all Fs with the exception of 1 class. I was suffering from major depression and I never attended any of my classes nor did I bother to withdraw for my grades. I simply didn’t care and I didn’t really know what was going on on my mind at that time…

I dropped out of that college with a 0.4 GPA, rested for 1 year working at a full-time job and then decided to start college again… so I enrolled in a local community college. After spending 2 years there for my associates degree, I earned a 3.9GPA. (out of 4.0)

I applied to several schools about 3 months ago as a transfer app:

Some competitive schools I applied for:
Binghamton University SOM
Cornell University
NYU
Stony Brook

I haven’t received any response for ANY of the schools that I applied for back in january. I was also worried because I had to submit ALL my transcript, including the one I got a 0.4 GPA on.

Will they reject me based my freshmen college year transcript on some college i spent less than 1 year on…? What are my chances to get into the above schools?

First off I’d like to commend you and say very good job! I definitely think you have a chance at those schools. You have an amazing gpa and I think that the adcoms should look passed your first grades. If I were an adcom I’d admit you. Keep that gpa and you are going to be able to do anything you want.

Pretty much same story as you… 0.8 gpa, 3.9 now, already got my acceptance to stony though. Did u check online? It doesn’t say “you’ve been accepted” but there will be a little section for new student preferences. The mail came way later. For stony it was 3.0 for last 24 credits so you should be accepted.

squire, I think that health issues are a valid explanation for the grades (as well as an explanation for neglecting to withdraw to avoid the low grades, I would think). Your cc GPA will make clear what you are capable of.

Good luck as you wait for the responses. I don’t know the schedules for each of your schools, but it is not AT ALL unusual to have heard nothing at this point. Many transfer decisions are not made until long after freshman decisions, even as late as early June.

I do hope you included some less selective schools, just so that you will have some safeties. Those are all great schools you listed above, but sometimes the competition is so stiff that even qualified applicants, like yourself, fail to get the fat envelope.

bump I had a tough time in college early on but since I have received straight A’s for the last 3 semesters. Would love to here some more success stories about doing poorly early on and turning it around.
