Your SATs are quite low for the ivys, and they’ll expect higher from you because of the advantages they’ll perceive you were given by having parents and grandparents who are alumni of very good schools. However, you may still have a shot. How successful is your production company?

In my eyes, my production company is pretty successful, we (my best friend and I) have created three original short films, so far. All are originally written, directed, cheorographed–everything. Just my opinion, our movies have an Alfred Hitchcock flare to them with a Cameron Crowe comedy streak. We are truly pleased with how our company is going. We are planning to showcase one or two films at the Palm Beach International Film Festival in April.

Please…I need rants! Tell me what would happen if I got my SAT score to the 2300s! Would Yale seriously take me?

You have to remember, with Yale, there are no guarantees. You have a great shot, but it’s crapshoot, no matter how high your SAT’s or GPA. Take a look at last year’s RD Decisions thread. I just about started crying when I saw it, because it really put into perspective the probabilities. Always have hope, but do NOT become cocky, because there is no “Magic Formula” to get into Yale.

Your opinion of your production company is not what counts. Do you have any independent (and recognized) reviews, awards, etc. Every high school with a creative arts department could make your claims. If you can’t provide independent verification, then provide a sample of your work. Yale will have someone in the creative arts field review it and report to the committee on it’s quality and creativeness. If it’s good, that might be a nice hook. If it’s not, it could hurt you. A higher SAT will help. Your ECs are all over the map. You have a few leadership positions and a few ECs that you have stuck with. Concentrate on developing those. The laundry list approach doesn’t work. Unless you are holding an office that you have already been elected to, activities for grade 12 aren’t going to count for much as they are just projections of things you might do.

can anyone give me a link to the page where there were people’s profiles, who got accepted/rejected to RD?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=46699

sorry but your EC list looks like a laundry list full of stuff that have no connection to each other (with the exception of film making)

^^ i agree. The are a laundry list which clearly shows no passion. You have nothing that stands out. Your production company sounds interesting, did you do anything special with it that can be considered a “hook?” Seriously, limit your ecs to 5-6 activities. Also, PLEASE dont list “Honor Roll” in your resume, because its gonna make adcoms roll their eyes. Anybody can make an honor roll, in fact, most Yale applicants are in their top 1% when it comes to class rank. I like that you are in varsity swim team, that can be a plus. Retake the SATs and apply EA and make sure you get awesome recs. Thats all the advice I can give you so far. If you have any more questions, PM me.

btw, I also live in West Palm Beach :)

your sat is fine.

now, don’t give them a laundry list, instead, show them your production company. it could be the thing that gets you in. remeber, they want passion… not robots.

i’d say work on other areas, but your sat seems fine.

I agree with enjoi, your ecs do look like a laundry list as you have presented them here. In all of my college research, a common theme I have seen is that the adcoms want a diverse class, not a class full of diverse people if that makes sense. They want to see depth and focus in a small range of activities, not a shallow interest in a wide range. There definitely is not enough space to list everything you’ve posted on the common app, so when your filling it out, only write down the activities you are the most involved in. Even if you attach a resume, still only list those ecs you really care about. If you include a laundry list, adcoms will be turned off because they will think you only did all of those things so it would look good on your app.

“your sat is fine.”

I am sorry, but this guy is applying to Yale. 2060 wont cut it. He needs 2200+ to remain competitive.

Everyone’s already said it all, but eh. The SAT needs to be quite a bit higher. If you can get that higher and show adcoms something truly impressive from your production company, you have a decent shot. Just remember to focus on the things that are truly important to you.

see it’s easier said than done getting 2300. everyone tries for that if they want to get into ivy league but its not always possible. still i think u have a fair chance wit ure ECs altho ure SAT score has to go up about 200 pts.

This production company is it for real? OR is it just a video of a B-day party?

what about a 1400 m/v if you are mexican american?

I’ve got a 2200 (but that was due to a CR 640 disaster). am giving PcM2C on the 8th. I’ve topped my class for the last few years, so my grades are fine. For ECA i’ve got head boy of my school, president physics club, president biotechnology club and chief organiser chemistry club. i’ve been a prefect earlier as well. i’m also editor of the school magazine and have been a student correspondent for a leading newspaper. i’ve got a distinction in my grade 8 solo piano from the trinity college of london. i’ve won some scholarships and was 6th in my state in my class 10 board examinations. i’m from Delhi, India. what are my chances for Yale? i’m looking at either a Physics or a Molecular Biology major with possibly a music minor. thanks.
ps. should i retake the 2200 or am i ok for now?
