I leave on Friday for a week trip to myrtle beach with my boyfriend and his family! I am so so so excited… I’ve been counting down the days for about a month now. Does anyone have any suggestions for things to do?

His parents mentioned some boat, a Good Vibrations show at the Carolina Opry, something about a boardwalk or broadway?, the aquarium, an alligator place, and some restaurant… so I guess we are doing those things, but any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Myrtle Beach has outlets, shopping, dinner shows, Ripley’s Aquarium and the Believe It or Not, lots of golfing, and of course…least we forget…the Atlantic Ocean which includes the beach. Have a great time. I think there is a website online for them. Do a Google and see what comes up.

But, sadly, the Pavilion is no more. Fender, you will not run out of things to do in Myrtle Beach. Catch a Myrtle Beach Penguins game if you can. For a quieter time on the beach than what you’ll find in Myrtle, drive south to Litchfield Beach or Pawleys Island for the day. While in Litchfield, have lunch at The Fish House – the fried oyster po-boy is particularly recommended.

myrtle beach is prime time to embrace your inner tourist. there’s lots of dinner-theater type shows (carolina opry, medieval times, things of that nature), lots of mini golf, outlet shopping, broadway at the beach which has restaurants/bars/stores and barefoot landing which is pretty much the same. great opportunity to also relax on the beach and see things at night.

(i go for beach week after finals every may, and it is tradition to go to plantation pancakes, which is a myrtle chain, in the myrtle. delicious breakfast food!)

What?!? The Pavilion is gone? When did that happen? I know it’s been years since I was down there, but that was a place we always went to every summer ever since…forever! I feel sick. That rickety old Swamp Fox was the most thrilling rollercoaster ever (at least to my 10 year old mind!!).

Good God, did I really write “Myrtle Beach Penguins” instead of “Myrtle Beach Pelicans”? Penguins aren’t exactly compatible with a Myrtle Beach summer. :)

The Pavilion had been in decline for years – and that was actually part of the charm. But with Myrtle Beach real estate values booming and revenue from the park declining, it was inevitable that the Pavilion owners would look for a better return on their assets. We went every summer during our beach week in Litchfield – good memories. At least I have a “Final Summer” t-shirt.

Dixie Stampede is a certifiable blast. If you go a little further south of Myrtle, (about 15 -20 mins.) there is Garden City which is a little more laid back and family oriented…

I recommend Jet Ski Rental at Murrells Inlet. What a great time. I lived in SC for a while and Myrtle could be a nice weekend getaway then. But I had younger kids and we camped.

MB State Park is also nice.

Ealry evenings and nites on the MB “Strip” can be quite eye opening. Lots of kids cruising with Kegs in the back of PU trucks and young people with videocams trying to catch the random Girls Gone Wild moment. WOO HOO

We’ve spent so much time at the beach over the years (eating great seafood) that my S2 once declared that hushpuppies were his favorite seafood, lol.

LakeWashington: Charleston is only about 100 miles from Myrtle Beach; admittedly, not that close but you could do it in a day. If the OP has never been to Charleston, it would be a worthwhile side trip if there’s time.

PackMom–very funny about the hushpuppies. I agree. ;)
