I will be graduating from university soon with my bachelors degree and I used both maiden and married name in the process. However I would love to remove my maiden and only let my married name be reflected on my bachelor’s degree. Is it possible for that change to take place seeing that I haven’t graduated as yet?
Lots and lots of people have a different legal name now than what’s on their diploma (married women, for example). It’s a non issue. DOB & SSN are used to match you up.
Employers, government, schools, etc. aren’t as dumb as they seem.
Not a new issue - you can include your previous name along with your application materials if you think someone might be confused. That happened to me after taking my DH’s name when we were married and a potential employer called my previous job for a reference and was told “no stradmom x working here but we used to have a stradmom y; she moved when she got married, sorry we can’t help you…” I assume contemporary experience would be less dense…
I have an issue with retroactively changing names on already completed documents. That’s changing history and is a little too Orwellian for my taste. Your new identity grew from your old identity.
@stradmom : So, someone who transitions to a different gender should not be able to get a new birth certificate? Can’t agree with you.
