Hi! Ok, so my full name is different than the name I’ve gone by my whole life. So basically, all of my college applications have my full name but my headshot is printed with my “nickname”. How would I go about letting colleges know I’m the same person under two names, I guess? I’m afraid there will be some confusion. Can I just tell them in my audition or should I contact the admissions office? Thanks!

Is your nickname totally different from your real name? My D goes by her middle name, so she has all three names on her headshot and resume, mostly because there is already an actress with her middle and last name. We had never heard of the actress and I think she is from the UK, but she still wanted to minimize any confusion with a google search. LOL. If your name is Robert and you go by Bobby, I think that is pretty easily figured out. If it is totally different, you might print your nickname on the front of your headshot and your full name + nickname on your resume which will be attached to the back, i.e. John “Bud” Doe.

It is totally different…Yeah I can definitely change the name on my resume. Just wondering if the headshot would pose a real problem as I really can’t change the name on that. Thanks!

I would not change the name completely on your resume. Some schools will have you fill out an audition form – on that form I would make them aware that you have another name that is on your applications. If there is no form (or even if there is) you could put an A.K.A underneath the name name you use for acting. Your resume should be attached to your headshot, so it should not be a problem. I would put both names on your resume though.

You are worrying about something that I wouldn’t worry about. My D had her formal name on all her applications and her resume, but her head shot had her “nickname.” No one was confused. At the auditions they called her by her nickname. Now that she is in college, they are trying to convince her that her formal name is better than her nickname… we will see…
