What qualifies or determines your entry into NAPS? Are you guaranteed an appointment afterwards?

NAPS candidates are selected from among the applicants to the Naval and Coast Guard Academies. They are frequently recruited athletes who would benefit from additional academic work in mathematics and english particularly. The school sometimes serves as a “redshirt” year for such athletes. Other promising candidates are picked to attend there for the same reason(i.e. to improve academics). You do not “apply” to NAPS as such. My understanding is that if you complete the year-long course successfully and meet physical fitness and medical standards you are “guaranteed” a spot at the academy which sent you there.
