NASA engineer v. porch pirates

^Of course, I’m a structural engineer and have absolutely zero electronic or mechanical ability, ha. I wish I did!

Exactly – He’s a ChemE but appreciates! Just was in the car with son and beeped the horn as a thank you. He shared this guy apparently engineered expressive beeps: “courtesy” “regular” and I think locomotive. I love it. Smile for my day!

@pilot2012, the drivers in Lebanon have that system down to a T. It’s pretty much non-stop honking everywhere. Nobody yields to anyone unless they honk!

A story published today says some of the video reactions were fake, but the engineer didn’t know about it until later.

It was and is still an amazing bit of engineering. Sad that folks are so determined to steal from others.

“Rober said he removed a minute and a half of the footage from the original video after learning that some of the “thieves” were actually acquaintances of the person he asked to help plant the packages on doorsteps. Rober said he agreed to compensate the person, who was a friend of a friend, based on the number of packages that were successfully recovered. The YouTuber later learned his helper recruited two people to collect the packages on tape. Three apparently real reactions remain in the video, Rober said.”

He set up a wrong KPI scheme. It was a bit strange that so many packages were swiped off his porch, and some thieves looked too comfortable taking the package, as Mr. B pointed out when we first watched the video. I like the guy’s reaction and apology.

You might not it live in an area where package theft is common. I lived in an apartment building where we lost about a quarter of the packages that arrived in the month of Dec one year.

That’s terrible, @intparent. I once ordered a $1,000 bag… the box sat on the front porch for 3 days… until we came back from our vacation. Our new 'hood - I dunno. it helps to be on a private drive at the end of a dead end street.

I want him as my son in law, D is on the market for an engineer with a great sense of humor lol.

I bagged an engineer like that for a husband!

I have a 30 year old analog TV that I wanted to get rid of but no one wants to take it, not even the trash disposal company. So, what if I just place that in a nice box and place it on my porch…

@TiggerDad that has been done. During a sanitation workers’ strike (I think in NYC) years ago, people would wrap their garbage like a present and leave it on the seats of their unlocked cars.
