nasal consegetion remedies?

any recommended products? its hard to breathe to my nose and been botherin me in my sleep. i know they got those nasal strips and all that but just want to hear yall suggestions.

sudafed…

or vicks (im allergic to it, but friends say it works).

or a hot shower.

prayer…those Christian “Scientists” say it works

well if your nose is congested I’d recommend eating some peppers, that always clears things up. Also try sleeping with the blanket over your head. Your body heat or any heat for that matter should relieve the congestion. I mainly experience this when the atmosphere is extremely dry and cold.

eat ginger…works wonders!

Sudafed and drinking lots of water. If you have a good Chinese food place near by, hot and sour soup works wonders! :)

I’ve had problems breathing out of my nose for years, and the only thing that’s worked is prescription nasal sprays, so if it’s really bothering you I would recommend going to the doctors. Other people I know swear by Saline nasal sprays which you can get at any drug store. Also, sleeping on two pillows allowing your head to be angled, rather than laying flat, can help.

It might also be seasonal allergies, which could be helped by taking an allergy pill before going to bed.

Hope this helps!

This thread could be helpful to me as well, since I have had a nagging cold for many days now.

thanks. i might check out the nasal sprays. seems weird though. you spray stuff up your nose?

^^ there were sprays before most perscription pills. It’s weird, but it usually works.

horseradish or wasabi!

Sudafed, Tylenol Sinus (same ingredient either way). The saline nasal sprays work too. You’ve seriously never heard of nasal sprays? Rhinocort is a good one (for me), but I don’t remember if it’s prescription or not.

I’m not one for all these herbal remedies, only the real medicine for me!

This is cheap and really works! Similar in principle to the nasal sprays but works much better. Also helps prevent colds if you do it twice daily when you feel yourself coming down with something. Amazing! Also, for chronic problems, try cutting out milk, cheese and ice cream. I was a huge cheese lover and after a few months of cutting it out, my sinus problems cleared up.

Cutting out dairy! My god are you crazy?!! The only people who should do that are lactose intolerants!

note: I’m biased in that I enjoy dairy products.

I’ve used the “netty pot” (similar to what lealdragon is recommending) and it works unless you have really bad seasonal allergies. For a nagging cold, I recommend Zicam Cold and Flu (over the counter).

It’s true that the neti pot won’t do much good if you are already very congested. It will help loosen the phlegm but will take awhile, so you may need to do something else for quick relief. It is awesome for prevention and when used at the onset, though.

Wherever did you get the idea that I didn’t? I am one of the biggest cheese fiends on the face of the planet! I am vegetarian but not vegan, because of my love of CHEESE!!! YUM. I used to eat cheese on EVERYTHING.

I just finally decided that I liked being clear and free of colds, allergies, and headaches more than I did eating cheese. When I quit dairy, I did not have a single cold or flu for almost 10 years!!! Yeah, no kidding. And prior to that I ALWAYS got sick several times every winter, for 2-3 weeks at a time, ever since I was a little kid. There was no question that getting off of dairy (and taking some supplements like Vitamin C and getting off junk food too) strengthened my immune system. Then, over the years, even though I still did not eat junk food, whenever I would eat a lot of dairy the colds would come back. It is common knowledge from a holistic viewpoint that dairy is the culprit for allergies and susceptibility to colds and sinus infections.

I now eat cheese but try to make it an occasional treat instead of a daily thing.
