I just accepted a job with a company in Nashville, so H and I are going to move from our beloved Texas. It is our first “adult” relocation and we are petrified.
I will get a lot of relocation help from the company, but would appreciate any input from any of you who live in Nashville or know the area.

We probably want to rent a house until we get a feel for the place. We have animals- one of which is very large! We like to be able to run in the neighborhood (i.e. right out the door) and need to be fairly close to restaurants and stores, since I haven’t mastered cooking.

My office will be downtown.
I am excited and nervous, but need this career move to be able to pay for my very expensive kids.

PM SplashMom, she lives right outside Nashville.
Also, check for parents (or students) on the Vanderbilt board.
There’s another parent from that area but I’m too old to think of the screen name right now.

Hi Mom of WC:
My husband is a grad of Vandy Law and I got a masters in Nashville. We LOVE Nashville and found it to be very welcoming when we lived there two times as adults. Great job market, lively economy, fabulous cultural offerings, truly one of the great Third Coast cities in the USA. I have owned a home in Nashville and can comment on where to live and neighborhood cultures for downtown dwellers. We lived close in to town…commuting was a breeze.
Feel Free to PM me. Congrats on your new beginning and I promise you will be pleased with the friendly people of Nashville and surprised by the myriad things to take in weekly around town.

We have had family in Nashville–they loved it, and were very sad to leave a few years ago. Brentwood is a great place to live–not a bad commute, lots of space, nice housing, etc. That’s the area with which I am most familiar. The neighborhoods there were great!!

My in-laws live in Franklin, just south of Nashville. Nice area to live and not to bad a drive into Nashville. My D who will be a senior next year is considering Belmont and Middle Tennessee State as two of her colleges.

I was watching Househunters last night and they did Nashville. One area they looked was an older nice neighborhood called Belle Mead (sp)near Vanderbilt. Very nice older homes on large lots starting around $300K for a smallish Cape Cod.

Off to Nashville this afternoon. I only had 10 days to get the house cleaned up, listed for sale, have the garage sale from hell (yesterday in 102 degrees), get packed for 2 weeks of work and start my new job (tomorrow). I will leave husband, dog and 4 cats back in Dallas for now. H comes in Thursday for house-hunting trip and I’ll come back to TX the weekend after that. We are exhausted, excited and overwhelmed. I forgot to ask my new employer if I can have College Confidential breaks during the day.
Daughter has an AIM away message quoting the Alan Jackson song, “Oh how I wish Dallas was in Tennessee.”
My dentist referred me to a dentist in Nashville who turns out to be Dolly Parton’s dentist. My realtor sees Tanya Tucker in the grocery store all the time.
This is going to be fun and interesting.
New chapter…
