Nashville

Hotel suggestions for three women. None of us have been and no set agenda for when we get there.
Thanks

Give me more info or send me a PM. Really depends what you like to do. You can stay right “downtown” and be near the honkytonks, music, historic Ryman Auditorium and art museum. Or- you can stay near Vanderbilt which is only about 2 miles from town. OR- you can stay out of town a little ways and have easier access to hiking, shopping, Natchez Trace etc.

The Crown Jewel is the Gaylord Opryland, which is truly a sight to behold and worth a visit even if you don’t stay there. It is about 20 minutes from downtown and maybe 15 from the airport. Not sure what the rates would be for when you are planning your trip. It’s right next to the Grand Ol’ Opry, too.

The Gaylord Opryland is worth a visit even if you don’t stay there! We visited it before the devastating floods a few years ago, but it seems to have been well restored. (And owned by Marriott now, apparently? It comes up on their website.)

Near Vandy, if money is no object, the Loew’s is a very nice hotel. But if money is not in endless supply, the Hampton Inn on Elliston is quite nice and has free parking. The Vandy Marriott and Embassy Suites on Broadway are nice, as well - Embassy Suites might be a nice setup for a friends’ weekend.

Many nice hotels in the Brentwood area, too - the Hyatt Place there is reasonable, nicely done, and near a very upscale shopping area.

Damn, I was hoping this was going to be about the tv show! :D

I’ve never stayed at the Opryland Hotel, but now that Marriott has purchased the Gaylord hotels, I might have to change this and use some Marriott points there. D is always telling me about the fabulous Christmas lights there. Marriott purchased Union Station a year or so ago and we stayed there last summer before a concert. That’s a great location, next to the Frist and within walking distance of downtown.

Hampton Inn Green Hills is also nice, and it’s in a good location for food and shopping.

consolation - I’m with you - love that show!

Me three on the show!

We loved the Hutton hotel on west end avenue. Very modern decor. A bit of a walk.to downtown but still.doable.

One more for the show. Guess we should start a thread. The latest show was really good!

We can always make it about the TV show once all questions about the " real" Nashville have been satisfied ! Great show and great talent. Not a country music fan but the show really demonstrated the versatility of these singers/musicians !

It already has its own thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/1401809-nashville-tv-show.html

I highly recommend checking out available condos on VRBO. I visited with 2 girlfriends last July and we stayed on 2nd St in a 2 bedrm condo. It was the perfect location for walking to honky tonks on Broadway. If you are looking for a very funny, but raunchy tour of Nashville, check out NashTrash Tours. My friends and I laughed so hard and thouroughly enjoyed the bus ride.

We have stayed at the Opryland Hotel a few times and there are several “themed” sections inside. It is a very large convention center and if I remember, the parking charge was at least $10.00 per day. If you are going for sightseeing, I would suggest staying downtown and picking up tours from there. Staying outside of downtown, be aware that the local restaurants seem to close very early, even those connected to hotels.

Re the NashTrash Tour. I haven’t done one, but D & a group of her friends did one as part of a bachelorette weekend last summer. She said it was awesome and wants us to book one for sometime this summer. Evidently you need to book several months in advance and earlier than that at “key” Nashville times such as CMA Fest.

I love Nashville! I go there for work a few times each year. The Hutton Hotel is fabulous! Gwyneth Paltrow stayed there when she filmed Country Strong, and it is very pretty and relaxing, nice restaurant/lounge downstairs. There is also an Embassy Suites rights down the street from the Hutton, and they have the free breakfast that’s always a nice perk and both of those hotels are in easy walking or cab distance to places to eat and drink and Vanderbilt. I prefer that neighborhood to stay. I’ve also stayed at the Sheraton by the capitol, I don’t like that neighborhood as much, though you can walk to all the honkytonks on Broadway–Roberts Western World is really fun! It’s a dive bar, diner, store, touristy but fun and the music really is great. It’s not really a nice walk, in my opinion, as that area just has a seedy feel, but ymmv.

I’ve also stayed at the Hampton Inn Green Hills and loved it. You can walk from there to the mall, to the movies, to a Carabbas and a Cheesecake Factory. Maybe you are not going all the way to Nashville for the mall, but it’s a very nice one, with a Kate Spade and Tiffany and other high end stores. When I’m there for business I like to go and just unwind there, it’s an easy, safe destination. Parnassus Books (Ann Patchett’s store) is right across the street and The Blue Bird Cafe (as seen on Nashville the show!) is right down the street. I’m sure there are other, more unique restaurants in that neighborhood too, if you look for them. This area feels more suburban to me, so it’s not really in the city proper, but it’s accessible if you have a car.

I don’t think I’d be happy staying at Opryland–I believe it’s closer to the airport than to Nashville proper, so you’d definitely need to rent a car to get around.

I haven’t done it myself, but one day when I have some free time I am going to drive out to Franklin, TN, which I hear has a bunch of antique stores, older homes, and a cute downtown also with some musical venues.

I love Nashville, it’s not the prettiest city but the people are so nice, and there’s plenty to do!
